Intel Pro/1000 MT - Server vs Desktop?

http://www.beowulf.org/pipermail/beowulf/2003-July/007445.html the desktop version is a low-cost 32-bit (82540em) while the server (82545em) is its 64-bit brother. from the threads above, there's quite a gap to fill between those two.

    Borneo

Where exactly are you visiting? Sabah, Sarawak or Kalimantan? I've been to the first two. 2.5 hours plane ride from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. I've heard nasty news about cannibals somewhere deep in the Kalimantan. Pontianak (Kalimantan's cap). As for jungle, all three would...

[NEWS] - FreeBSD turned 10 years old yesterday.

Ditto and I would appreciate a Free's mergemaster-like script. As for netbsd's rc.d, if this thread is of any indication (and De Raadt's attitude), I don't think we are going to see it anytime soon.

    Gentoo Linux 1.4 rc4 released.

Ditto. I can never understand on how the Linux kernel should be configured correctly. Never had even once, a successful kernel compilation. Why can't it be as straight through as FreeBSD's or OpenBSD's? Why can't it highlight the necessary dependencies (in the config file for instance) instead...

    Iraqi crisis explained...

I must say that Muslims do not see this as a war to oust Saddam. Many Muslim friends, I myself is one, don't hold any love for him. In fact, I personally and many others I know would like to see him off. I've an intuition that this is a war against Islam. The facts aren't there but the feeling...

    Securing wireless access with VPN

Indeed. Good comments and reviews for readers alike. Placed an order for it at one of the local bookstores. Turned out they don't stock that book and had to bring it in. Amazon & FatBrain freight rates is too much too lump hence going for local. Thanks for the recommendation.

The organization LAN are done through VLANing, which Catalysts are trunked with one another. The two depts are spread over multiple floors. Are there any special issue that I need to consider with this kind of setup?

    Securing wireless access with VPN

Thanks Fushigi, As the way I understand it, the diagram would somehow relates to this PC A-->--unencrypted-->--PIX/ISAKMPD gateway-->--ESP (IPsec)-->--PIX/ISAKMPD gateway-->--unencrypted-->--PC B Please correct me if I'm wrong.

    Securing wireless access with VPN

Hello all, As above. The target is a corporate network, 100+ nodes (2 depts). The building is located in a busy road intersection and a wired Coffee Bean just down below. Each node has been upgraded to Wi-Fi B, using 128-bit WEP. The data isn't mission critical but supposedly they want to...

Buying an entry level Sun machine. Advice please.

Tempting indeed, James. I'm sorry for being daft but when you wrote USD 300, does it include the freight charge? My English comprehension isn't that good yet.

Buying an entry level Sun machine. Advice please.

http://docs.sun.com/db/doc/816-1664-10/6m82lv9lf?a=view I'm fixing my attention on a Sparcstation 20 and according to the page above, the configuration is supported. Thanks Gary for the heads up. I wouldn't have known it by fact if not for the page above.

Buying an entry level Sun machine. Advice please.

Thank you guys for the referrals. Mercutio, thanks anyway for the offer but buying outside isn't an option for me at the moment. Most of the Sun resellers here do have used and refurbished products on sale, so I'd go to them. I have bought large products from the States, so no worries for me...

Buying an entry level Sun machine. Advice please.

Definitely blake. I'm fairly convinced that a Sun certification would do me good during the next 2-3 years. Even if I don't really need it, it does give me an edge when proposing projects. I had a talk with a family friend last week during which he opined that a system administration...

    FreeBSD from scratch

Definitely Coug that got my attention. I've been trying to help a friend building an embedded Linux using the LFS method for quite a while now and nowhere did I found good references for FreeBSD for an application. The closest I got was by trimming the kernel and a stripped userland binaries on...
