    Coronavirus

It is kind of good news I guess, but important to keep the rates down so you do not overload the healthcare system. I work with BI in the healthcare these days and heard that the treatment is quite nasty for both the staff and the patients even if we still have plenty of beds left in our small...

Here is a fresh climate report from the US government. https://nca2018.globalchange.gov It's not a very comforting read, but at least it seems like they understand the problem now. That's a good start.

    Audio Equipment

There"s no shortcut to the perfect sound ;) The basic function is to get great sound, if you can't get that, every other function is a waste. But it looks like it actually has balanced XLR outputs? Unfortunately I can't afford one myself. :(

The Glasnost was happening back in 1985, maybe that is the reason for the difference? Don't you have a atomic clock in the vicinity you can use as a time server?

Hmm, I just realised how much I miss the sound from the actuators on my old Seagate Cheetah 15K.3, when they were hammering down the bytes on the disk. That was almost better feedback than a LED.

I read about an incident exactly like this with the same sums and so on, in swedish media. So it looks like this is a quite widespread scam at the moment.

    HOT

"Hot" is +25C or more for me. :) I prefer temperatures between +15 and +22 in the summer. This year has been very warm and dry and this week has been "hot" with +30 a few days in a row. We have A/C, but it's made and used for heating, and I haven't had to use it for cooling yet. But it's always...

    Happy Holidays (2017)

In december we have the sunrise around 9.40 and sunset 14.20. It's a bit boring for a few months when it's dark both when you go to work in the morning and when you leave work in the evening.

I agree. But I didn't know what it was, or the percentage, before I tasted it. I didn't see anything unusual. It was more like a normal herb liquor.
  25. F

    Beverages

Yes, it actually tasted a bit worse than cough medicine. :) I don't know exactly how this batch was born, but seems like a real hassle to make proper Absinth yourself, according to Wikipedia. It was interesting to try, but it's not a new favourite if I put it that way.

You need to drink quite a few bottles of whisky at once before you reach lethal levels. But it's probably not good for your health, like most alcoholic beverages.

    Beverages

What is PDE? But phenol levels is used to describe the amount of peat. I think a normal peaty whisky like Laphroaig has about 45 ppm and Ardbeg around 55 ppm, that is quite nice. 309 ppm is probably more of an aquired taste.

I haven't heard about Russian whisky before (and that doesn't nessecerily mean that it's bad). But Japanese whisky is in the same league as Scottish, so I can recommend trying one. I ended up ordering a Coffey Malt, so I hope I can give a report next week.

Coffey is the name of the guy that "invented"/improved column still technology (I learned it on the internet this week). It's normally used for distillation of grain whisky, but apparently Nikka uses two pots for malt whisky. It should in theory give a smoother whisky than pot stills, so it...
