    Finally got the toaster working...

Bozo:> One of the things I really like is The Beast tries to boot from that SATA enclosure, something it won't do on the Granite Digital removeable drives. I've always wanted a removeable drive setup, similar to the Panasonic CF-51, where you can change drives by just plugging in a new one, and...

SSDs - State of the Product?

100 bucks: ebay. Returned it to China once. Sat in a post office there, and was shipped back. Now I'm trying it again, with faster numbers, but the same general lag and stutters. They just contacted me to ship it back to them, which I'll be happy to do. Problem is, they keep trying to get me to...

SSDs - State of the Product?

Kingspec, POJ, 30 gig, update. I have one that works fine. The other, I tried in a used, CF-51 Mark III Panasonic laptop. Gives wonderful numbers. 70 MB/sec in ATTO and others. Great Access times, HD tach, .02 MS. Problem is, the drive sucks. It's slower with 2003 on it, in a Duo then a 7200...

    Panasonic Cf-51 Mark III

Thanks. Tried it, and seems I need a driver for the phone to be recognized that I don't have. The XP install seems faster, probably a better hard drive, despite the numbers, and works great for what I need. 2003 is just fun to play with;-)

    Panasonic Cf-51 Mark III

Quick update: Bought another caddy, and installed the 'bad' Kingspec 30 gig with 2003 Server on it. It seems to work pretty well with this model CF-51 giving nearly 80 MB/sec speeds, and .02 access, with writes averaging about half those speeds. Forgot how much I liked 2003 Server. Does it feel...

    Panasonic Cf-51 Mark III

The laptop isn't mounted under the seat. I need something I can pull out, tether to my Nokia Nuron, and load google spread sheet, and enter income and mileage. Also, the Nuron mobile browser sucks, and Opera is barely liveable on the phone, so it's better to us the phone as a modem, and a...

    Panasonic Cf-51 Mark III

I' sure I am missing the subtle parts of that remark, LM. Please explain? I was gambling on this CF-51. It has twice the Passmark scores of the Pentium 1.6 ghz M version, faster memory, faster bus, actually has good speakers, and, an ATI GPU, vs onboard for the M version. I get to use all my...

    Panasonic Cf-51 Mark III

Cost was 89 plus 20 shipping. Add 44 dollars for 2 Gig 5300 ram, dual channel, add an old SSD, from Kingspec, and up and running. The Kingspec runs at 75 MB/sec in the Mark III vs. less then 50 MB/sec in the Cf-51 1.6 GHZ Penitum M. Overall, one of the better buys I've made. Great for under...

Hi I was wondering what traveling pros use for mileage log, income, etc. all the stuff you may not need next year for taxes? BOZO, YOU ROCK! After the third RMA, going on number 4 toasters, I gave up. Pulled the Esata connector, and went with the Antec removeable drive setup. It went in, though I seem to be running out of SATA power connectors, and was up and running in less then 4 minutes. I'm currently copying...

After pretty much making sure the newer T2500 based, core duo works, I switched the hard drives, and, I'm putting the 7200 rpm, with minimal software in the car, and the other one is going to be the one to go to. Newer model supports 1600X1200 screen, dual core is slightly more then twice as...

    Finally got the toaster working...

This toaster has the lights quit after one day. Power is only going to one slot, and, it really hasn't worked. Wasted 50 bucks, but, I'm going to try the Antec tray, since I'd really like to be able to use the older drives for single shot backups, and then remove them from the system. The trays...

    Cheap, small, light netbook?

Looks like it's going to work. Only real problem is the SSD is in the old model, but, it may well end up under the car seat. New one finding drivers hasn't been fun, but, it's a bit more then twice as fast, and, ST910021A seems like a decent hard drive, if not SSD fast.

    Anyone Building AMD Systems?

"On the other hand, to be a real downer, AMD's accomplishment here is essentially to match the Core i7-940, a product Intel first introduced in the fall of 2008. Samsung prices crash on monitors. Looks like they are finally going free market.

I know. I looked up the stuff you linked to, then the numbers, and found the same thing. Samsung prices crash on monitors. Looks like they are finally going free market.

Well, life is weird sometimes. I traded in my two 2233's that I paid nearly 300 each for. I replaced them with a P2770. I was never going to buy another Samsung, but, the only thing in the 32" range, 1080P, was around 550.00 at Costco. The only one close in 1080P was a 27" TV, for around 320...

Costco: Samsung 27" 300 bucks Samsung 23" 180.00 dollars Samsung 24" 200 dollars. That's a HUGE price cut, from 21.5" for 289.00. Looks like the anti-trust stuff, and the economy, not to mention TV's are finally forcing them to quit price fixing.

    Crystal Disk Mark?

OK: So, we now know CDM doesn't work for your drive, in your system. Does make me wonder if the limitation is somewhere in your system. I know the SATA ports on this Gigabyte board seem to be 4 VERY fast, 6 seem to be SATA 1, with actually only 8 of the 10 really working.

HMMM. There are some REALLY bad SSD's out there. Nice to have a bench mark to find out why they are. I have one that won't clear 30 MB/sec. Makes a passable USB 2 external drive, but that's about it. Waste of 140 dollars...

I've done that with a 30 gig Kingspec PATA drive. It makes for a rather quick, and this was a really slow sustained throughput drive, USB drive, that is pretty shock resistant.
