    SATA II problem

There's definitely some kind of issue between Hitachi drives and SATA-1 controllers - VIA ones, anyway. I have a 500GB Hitachi 7K500 that isn't recognised when connected to a SATA-1 motherboard, but all the ones I've tried use the VIA 8237 so I'm not sure if it's a specific Hitachi/VIA problem...

NF2 Ultra Dual Channel or Single Channel with Different DIMMS

They should work just fine in dual-channel mode. The NF2's memory channels are completely independent, apart from the master clock, so Dimms don't need to be identical. They don't even need to be the same capacity; I used to have an NF2 board with a 1GB PC3200 module on one channel and a 256MB...

Figured out how to max out a dual Xeon 2.8 machine...

The operating system on the Amiga had nothing to do with Microsoft, Grim. They supplied the a crappy Basic interpereter that nobody ever used, and even that was replaced fairly early on. I do agree that the Amiga was a really nice, smooth system. I've been running various Amigas since 1988 and...

    Epox 8KHA+ leaky capacitors

I think it's just taking differing amounts of time for the boards to show signs of cap death. I have a couple of 75KAVs right here now - both F5 revision, both with the same brand of capacitors, both have had very hard lives - but only one has leaking caps. The non-leaky board is still in use so...

    Epox 8KHA+ leaky capacitors

Epox have this problem too, alas. I've personally lost several 8KTA2s to leaking caps, and I've seen a few 8KHAs with signs of it. The Soltek 75KAV is also a known offender. I've two of them sitting right here, killed by bad caps.

    RIP MSI YMFPOS

The BIOS may well be corrupt, but I had very similar syptoms on an Epox KT133 board and it was all down to the caps. First it started showing random instability, then it took several tries with the power button before it woke up and then, finally, it died. I replaced half a dozen bad caps and...

    Gigabyte Radon 9200

I've always pronounced it as 'Rad-e-on' with the 'Rad' as in 'Radical', and until the release of the GF4 I always said 'GeForce' as 'sucky lame-ass signal quality' :mrgrn: ## Doc

    Gigabyte Radon 9200

Tea, the 9200 is a fine card. I ran a 9000 (which is just a 9200 without AGP 8X support) in my main box for months and had no trouble with it at all. Solid drivers, real DirectX 8 support, good signal quality, and reasonable 3D performance. It got a 3DMark '01 score of about 7400 on an XP2600...

Re:Intel Builds In More Built In Obsolescence

VIA already had a bad reputation back in the MVP3 days, which it roundly deserved because the MVP3 had some serious problems. The KX133/KT133(A) chipsets were fine, provided you bought boards from quality manufacturers. Epox, Soltek and some others all built wonderfully stable boards around...
