Supposedly August 8th for the little Zen 5s and August 15th for the interesting ones. I'm holding back to see what issues there are at launch but I'm looking forward to whatever we get. LM, ORD to Nairobi business class is $1000 almost year round. Where the hell are you flying? Ulaanbaatar?

I watched this happen to my brother, who eventually got better, and one of my uncles, who went from host a campaign event for Illinois state senator Obama to building a bunker under his house for a six digit amount of money because of all the gangs in Chicago (which is two hours away; and the...

I have a Netware 4 system I have to keep running until the end of September. It was probably new in about 1996, but at least it's not running on its original hardware any more. It's currently a Core 2 Duo an Intel 945 motherboard, which is what we can comfortably call old ass hardware.

    BIOS Updates on Ryzen

You might want to move your USB devices around to different ports. Start with the keyboard and mouse on a non-superspeed port. The device in question could be something internal and non-removable. If you have nothing installed and still have a problem, it's something on the motherboard and you...

I realized that when Dick Cheney told a journalist that reality is whatever the administration defines it to be. I've never liked the GOP, but here we are at the intersection of Brave New World and 1984 and these guys seem like they're racing past The Handmaid's Tale toward I Have No Mouth and I...

Skipping a generation isn't the end of the world, LM. You are on a contemporary architecture. You can just keep your $700-ish and get a Zen 6-whatever. If the numbers aren't there, if it's only a 12% bump over what you have now or something similarly underwhelming, you're only going to be out an...

Here is a thread to talk about gaming

    1. Apparently the earliest sample of a retail 9900X has been reviewed and it benchmarked generally slower for gaming than a 7800X3D. 2. Emulation gaming seems to be something you can pick up and put down rather than a full time focus. I think it's easier given a broad ranges of emulators...

I think the Noctua products are more of a "I bought an expensive PC and I'm not screwing around with the cooling, either" deal. I reuse the fans between my personal builds and I don't care what color they are. Keep them oiled and they last and last and they'll stay quiet the whole time. I'm sure...

I actually got a single UltraStar SN840 out of the pile of nonsense my data center had set aside. New (sealed) drive, and I wouldn't have bought it if it doesn't have HGST style dress vs. Western Digital. It's just 2TB, too small to put in a production server, I'll find something to do with it.

Something to keep in mind about air coolers is that they work forever. Maybe you have to swap a fan, but pumps flat out die after a while. This is one of those things that keeps me away from AIOs: I can buy a $300 top end liquid cooler and at best, maybe I get four or five years out of it...
