    Best 8TB Drive

I might spring for a 7200rpm 8TB drive with a fair helping of cache on the eventual scale, for now my 4TB seems to be holding out reasonably well. I'm willing to pay a little more for a drive that doesn't cause my games to stutter trying to stream in textures. :P All my stuff's installed and my...

    EDC pocket knives

I use a Kershaw OD-1 1775. Not the easiest thing in the world to sharpen but it gets the job done and has a nice, beefy clip for hanging in my pocket. The opening lever is nice for when I'm trying to open boxes one-handed. It's not in the best aesthetic shape but it's functionally and...

    question New Computer

I'm with the majority on this one, I don't often watch movies but when I do I prefer them to be on disc. My internet connection is very unreliable and slow when it does work, so anything beyond 480p is a stretch to me. I got the N400 in the mail today and I'm actually somewhat pleasantly...

    question New Computer

My optical drive doesn't see much use unless I'm watching a bluray (extremely rare), transcoding a DVD (less rare) or writing some kind of OS to disc for an old machine (easily the use case for which I bought the drive), but I use my hotswap bay a lot. I broke the acrylic window in the side...

With an actual, real GTX-series GPU, I'm making points hand-over-fist compared to how I used to. It just goes to show... With the Phenom II and the GT730 I was averaging 30k PPD. With this machine I'm clearing 173k. I knew the 960 absolutely wiped the floor with the 730 -- I'd have to be an...

    Firefox 57 and Legacy Addons

I enjoyed my brief time with FF57, it seems to be a nice tradeoff between Chromium and old Firefox for me in regards to RAM consumption vs multi-threading performance, but the severe lack of addons really bites. I mostly just use flashcontrol and ublock origin on Vivaldi here, though I do have...

Second opinion on some electrical calculations

I'm no electrician, and you honestly know more than I do by a very wide margin, but giving the requested once-over I can't see anything glaringly wrong with what you're doing. if I may, might I ask what you're doing running so many LED strips?

Finally got my insurance sorted for 2018. Hoping that being around people who smoke doesn't qualify me for "using" tobacco products myself, that's a pretty hefty tobacco surcharge at $25/wk. SSDs - State of the Product?

Thankfully I don't see much of a reason to change the status quo as far as my machine's storage -- 120GB SSD for booting and productivity programs, 4TB HDD for games and user data works wonderfully for me. I'm apparently a pretty cheap date, so to speak.

Oh my god, yes. It's not uncommon to see 2x8GB non-registed non-ECC stuff for well over $100 -- that I got my kit for only $70ish is a steal by comparison. And I was only after 1600! I can't imagine the prices on 1866.

Ebay prices for DDR3 RAM are ridiculous, but I think I managed to find a decent (sub $100 per kit) listing for a 2x8GB kit that should work with my board and have ample clearance for my CPU cooler if the sheet I cross-referenced is accurate. If it is in fact working with my board I'll grab...

I'm finding Windows 10 to be a very dual-boot unfriendly OS. Every major update results in it usurping my bootloader (GRUB) to instead force itself into my MBR. Even on an entirely separate drive I can't escape it! It's infuriating to have to, every time it does this, reboot from my Linux...
