In the Spring of 1998 I got my first computer, a Pentrium II 400MHz with 128MB of RAM and 11.5GB HDD from the DELL store. It was considered fairly high end at the time. I had some kind of Viewsonic CRT monitor from somewhere else, then added the SCSI CD burner, two SCSI scanners (flatbed and...
No tripod for this trip, just bags. I do put a 600/4 with TC on a tripod with true gimbal head.
Canon lens IS and camera IS are not separately controllable. If the lens has IS and it is off, the camera IS is also off. If the lens IS is on then the camera IS is also on.
In general, there is a...
It must be RAID 0, JBOD, or individual no? I'm trying to understand where all those bytes go. What you don't want is one drive filling up while the others are mostly empty. You barely get 1500 MB/sec. with a decent M.2 drive after the SLC buffer is filled and worse when it is close to full.
NAS is fine for bulk storage, but slow for working a drive with lots of reading/writing.
Warranties for liability of anything beyond the defective part are dicey at best. Ask anyone who has tried to make a claim for $100K against their UPS or power strip failing. :(
I understand you can assign folders to different and multiple places, but what is the RAID 0, a Windows tool or something else?
I have tried the JBOD for multiple drives, but like HDDS, SSDs do not like being nearly full.
I thought your Honda was crushed some years ago during a tornado or something. Those vehicles have been obsolete for over 11 years, so I doubt there is much case against the manufacturer.
I'm not a fan of the slightly shaky documentary look that was popular years ago. Maybe it is back in style.
I really want to see if the 100-500 holds up to the R7. MTF at 500mm doesn't drop much towards the edges and corners, but the center is not really excellent like the 500/4. f/8 still...
Anything needing Explorer hangs for 30 seconds or a minute when a network device is not available. I experience that every day. :(
I don't under that stuff Merc mentioned. If it is set up on one computer, can the SSDs be moved to a completely different one and the data on the "array" of three...
I refuse to use fluids for cooling. I need a quiet computer since it is next to my area. I can live with the fans at moderate speeds on idle and then noisier under load if it works with the Nocturnal D15. The fluid coolers have to blow out the top which would probably be unbearable.
The whole...
Well, it is is ugly looking with various sections cut out to clear the components. What is to prevent arachnids or insects from getting under the ISS?
🕷️🐛🐞
Single-threaded speed is about +25% which is pretty good. Multi-threaded is dependent on the application and power/cooling but +35% is not difficult to achieve. The 7950x may be something good if it runs Windows 10 and TPM can be decommissioned by March.
I saw adverts from the stores that they...
I'm pretty sure nobody does it like I do. Canon does not accelerate, but rumours persist it will eventually. GUI does fairly well with NVidias. DXO does something, but could be faster.
Most likely I would keep the 3060Ti in the currently main computer, which would then move to the backup...
You guys know all that stuff. Most people don't know. If they care they will seek the info. I would look for test results, such as benchmarks.
But Joe Blow at the Walmart has no clue between different generations and grades of Intel CPUs or NVidia GPUs.
Another time I was in the northern...
I don't know about it yet. Maybe DXO, Topax, Canon, GUI, even the Abode will be installed if necessary. The computer would be the 7950x. From what I understand we can use it until October 2025.
If the system fails to function, such as in a strong rain, snow, or ice storm it just disengages.
The rental companies were hit hard by the pande and vehicles and service are worse than ever.
I think the fancier safety systems have been standard only for the last few years. They used to be options in luxury cars and then options in more ordinary cars, but rentals usually are lower trim lines and get them last. I was assigned to large organizations that had specific travel policies...
Before the virus I rented a LOT of cars including Camrys.
There were three settings, far, medium, and close that cycle through. IIRC the setting is far each time you start the vehicle.
If the closest setting is still too far, then you shouldn't be using an automated system in that sort of traffic.
Don't follow too close and wreck your car. ;)
Do you use the recent large capacity Seagate Exons drives at home? I'm really disappointed in the ugly seek noise compared to the old 10TB helium models. I have no budget for hard drives until H2 2023 unless it becomes urgent, but I'm going for WD drives next time if they are quiet.
Run times at low load are all over the place with various UPS. I found that some of the older, simpler ones are more efficient like my Conext. See if you can find the no-load run times listed.
For low power items like the routers, switches, ONT, I have the old APC...
I like the vibrate to notice the incoming TEAMs calls if I'm not looking at a computer display at that moment.
The 85% charge setting is just fine. I can still get two days from it easily.
Yes, I use it. The charge does not stop. It just creates an alarm or notification that is useful if the operator is present. I think there is an IOT AC outlet than could be controlled, but that's too much hassle. At home I use a timed USB control. The app indicates battery capacity at 93%...
I was able to check a Moto Stylus 5G with Andorids 12 and it did not have the 85% battery setting. Instead there is some weird battery saver that stops charging after 3 days when pugged in and 100%. That is hardly a useful setting.
I would also look at local stores or other small stores that can put your name on a list. NY stores are some of the worst for availability since they have so many buyers and the locals get some preference.
Unfortunately I don't live very close to physical stores and I travel so it is not...
The Canon store has been unreliable for a while now.
Do you not have a leveling bowl for your video head or are you using some sort of Steadicam/active gimbal?
Have you found one yet? I suspect they built far more of the lens kits than anyone wants as those are readily available. I would not mind tossing a completely useless $200 lens, but $400 +tax is a bit much. :(
The absorption phase is typically about 28V and the float about 26.8-27.3 depending on the UPS brand/model. It should be temperature compensated. However, I've seen some of the more primitive UPS just use the higher end of float voltage as the only charge. I'm not sure if that significantly...
Thanks for that. I did not know it existed. Is it just a Samsung thing or in all the new Androids?
Would it be best to leave the phone plugged in at 85% as much as possible? That would avoid the charge/discharge cycles for the most part.
The office lighting is really harsh, like you feel the glaucomas forming.
I manually set the brightness about 75%. Battery life be damned. :)
Auto is never any good.
The 6a Pixels is a little smaller than the others and the battery is weaker. I trust the Google even less than the others. Who knows what is happening with those manipulated photos.
The problem is that the lithium UPS are mostly practical for business use where the high cost is offset by the reduced maintenance and other advantages. I'm not seeing any replacement batteries for the Tripplites, which also jacks up the cost if you have to sens it somewhere. I can spend...
