RTX 30 series cards are more abundant lately and prices are becoming more reasonable. I'm tempted to go for the 3080 this summer rather than wait for the 4070 if it is not smaller and uses significantly less power for the same throughput. When will we have better info on the 40 series?

So you just use one setting for all images? Then they return to PS or something? I've already found some ugly artifacts from the 3.7, so I'm not sure it is so good. :(

Maybe I'm confused, but wouldn't you have been a very small child back then? The Matrox were mainly used for work and content creators; Vodoo and such was for the gamers. I had a 1280x display since the 21" Artisans were too bulky and expensive for me at the time. After that the Apple Cinema...

So I tried 3.7, but the RAW conversion is still not good. I would use this on a TIF only. The low light mode, which I normally use, looks to be a bit cleaner than the older version. According to the change log 3.7 now uses RTX video card functions for better accelerations.

Maybe you have more data or it was different in the South-West. I have seen several homes from the 50s originally with the Swamp Coolers and houses from the 1960s all had A/C. The condenser units had horizontal fans that were very loud. Many of them lasted into the 70s and were replaced when...

I thought most all US homes less than ~60 years old have the internal A/C, expect maybe Alaska. I've seen a lot of wall A/Cs in hotels, presumably as a cost saving measure. They are often too noisy for home use. FWIW, there was no A/C in most homes when I was stationed in Europe many years...

Oops, I misunderstood. Normally a totaled car is paid out at the current value at the time of the accident. That is irrespective of your financial interest in the car. I also assumed that most lenders require gap insurance to pay off the loan in the event of a shortfall.

In May I bought a D7500 as a last DX camera before they disappear forever. It's not as good as the D7200, but faster. I hope that pair lasts a few years until a decent grade Z-DX MILS exists and matures enough in AF, which probably will not be the first generation. All Nikon has now is the...

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

I don't bring camera gear in public unless it's to the airport. Are you mostly in the States? Nobody would use a lens that is designed to lose 40% of the image unless it is a long tele or some other special purpose lens that is not available at all. Even then it would not be a main working lens.

The GFX 100S is a surprisingly inexpensive and really compact semi-MF camera with 100MP. You will mostly see them used for travel and landscape off the beaten path. Some people use them in the studio too, but there are better options for that. Canon lenses don't cover 55mm other than the...

Samsung MZ7WD960HMHP (SV843) Read Speed Slow Down

Just how old is it? I was running 4th gen Cores on the M.2 drives with Win 7 years ago. The earlier M.2 worked on the PICe without NVMe and then the NVMe SSDS needed a driver. More recently the Samsung NVMe SSDs don't have a driver and cannot be used.

I have maybe ten of the 6TB drives with archives, but they are just hanging around until disposal. I never liked that generation (6x1TB platters) of hot drives. Samsung MZ7WD960HMHP (SV843) Read Speed Slow Down

I've seen that with many drives, though that is more extreme at 288GB and you are starting with slow speeds from SATA anyway. Defrag is not so good because of the write amplification, but also the block size/locations and cluster sizes are not matcthed so some NAND flash will perhaps be...

Keep in mind that the 32.5MP R7 sensor will be quite noisy compared to what you are used to with the R6, but I don't know what shutter angles you use for videos and what degree of studio/location lighting is implemented. I found the 90D video to be mediocre, so it has to be an improvement over...

From what I can find it still has the old-tech (slow scanning) sensor and lowly 12-bit depth in electronic shutter so you need to use the mechanical shutter for action subjects or higher IQ. I'm still about 98% sure that it won't AF a 600/4 worth a damn on OOF subjects. I may rent one for...

The R7 is looking to be rather meh, being a functional successor to the 90D rather than the 7D II. I'm still hoping that Nikon can make a superior MILS successor to the D500. No DSLR cropper was ever in its league.

My point is that they will have to increase the TDP to get the same performance from the CPU and that takes better cooling or it will not perform as well as possible. For example will the 7950x with an added GPU run at 125W instead of the 105W TDP in the 5950x?

But will those perform well in PTGui or DXO? I always thought that integrated graphics was not good because it generates more heat and ultimately results in lower maximum performance of the CPU.

UHS-I with the A2 is much faster in reads, but not much in writes and I don't think the cameras can use that mode. Is there any new info from Canon? IIRC with FW v 1.30 or 1.40 the R5 was really slow even with the A2 cards. Are you seeing a differnce in sustained camera writes between UHS-I...

The costs are about the same. For example a good 128GB SDxC UHS-II (half duplex 312) card is about $150-200 and so is a 128GB CFe (Type B) card. IME the CFe card is much faster in the R5, clearing the buffer about twice as fast. The fastest UHS-I cards write at about a third of the fastest...
