People downsizing, want small form factor printer/scanner

That's a whopping 48 x 29 cm - long and skinny. It's also an inkjet, which I personally have sworn off completely. Smallest color laser MFP I can find quickly is the Samsung CLX-3305FW: 40.6 x 36.2 cm. A bit slow at color printing but available from AU$229 inc tax.

    LED flashlights

As mentioned, I also bought an MG RX-1 "Thrower" and a Romisen RC-T602 for less than $30 each (the MG was discounted due to minor cosmetic damage). The MG has a particularly big, but orange peel, reflector. Predictably, it throws very well (lights up trees a couple of hundred meters away), but...

Sunwayman D40A mini-review: I can't believe I thought this truncated brute was "relatively small". :) With 4x 2550mAH XX Eneloops onboard, it's definitely a solid, even hefty flashlight. You would have to have seriously baggy pants to accommodate this in your pocket. :o The other negative...

OK, I realize my Olight S15 review was schizophrenic, but here's a more considered review after a couple of weeks usage: It's exquisitely made and all that, and I know it has excellent battery life, but illumination is still limited by the 2xAA battery configuration and the tiny reflector...

That's a nice sentiment. I suspect it will apply to Bozo, although gardening can also be exciting. ;) I'm worried that Bozo will throw SF out with the bathwater, and not feel any need to carouse with his fellow tech-heads. :( Bozo, you're an especially valued member, regardless of whether or...

OK, disregard that premature review. I was using 2 of the old NiMH that I 'salvaged', i.e. that the Maha reported as fine. I swapped to two Eneloops and the difference was (literally) like night and day. Green tint gone, now excellent color, maybe 5000-5500K? Clear difference between medium and...

Received the Olight S15 "Baton". Meh. :( It's exquisitely made and all that, and I know it has excellent battery life, but I would have been more impressed 5 years ago. The tint is woeful. It's not supposed to be neutral, but it's not really daylight either; just green. :( With the clip...

Lunar, what makes you think it's overcharging AAs? The test I referred to concluded the Nitecore stopped at about the same point as the MH-C9000. The MH-C9000 actually undercharges cells slightly - it's not the benchmark for maximum possible charge. As long as your batteries are not...

Mubs, I don't want to start a flame war, but I don't believe the 'Maha' Mh-C9000 adds value except as a capacity measuring tool, which is why I bought one. I recently had a cleanup and checked about 20 old Sanyo NiMH of various vintages. After many days carefully tending the "Break-In" mode...

Thanks for that quite useful info, but my expectations were already set by the very low price. :) Having said that, several more expensive flashlights also don't maintain flat regulation, either steadily declining or reducing in distinct steps. I'm not concerned about the 500 cycles, but the...

I'm starting to question the value of the 'name' brand options. For instance, I'm not sure what's wrong with a MG P-Rocket II for $39? I already have the older version with an XP-G emitter that yields 25,000-30,000 lux @1 meter. The XM-L emitter doesn't throw as well, but obviously you get a...

Sorry, the link I used refers to a group of 3 Eagletac lights; the GX25L2 I wanted is the relatively small one and the MX25L2 is the whopper. I think if I could get a GX25L2 with turbo head for a reasonable price, it might be worth keeping for myself.

Indeed. :) OK, I've been doing some research and have come up with these so far: Heavily-modified Small Sun aspheric: 100,000cd Olight M3X: it's 2 x 18650 and doesn't have a low mode, but does manage 90,000cd and seems to be available for around US$100? Sunwayman D40A: 30,000cd, takes 4 x AA...

Need a spectacular light for someone as a thank-you (they're not easily impressed). Good throw (i.e. high lux in the hotspot) would be good. I saw Stereodude's triple-18650 suggestions, but frankly I'd prefer a single 18650 unless there's a huge advantage. Any ideas?

That's really, really impressive. I'm starting to think it will take a controller failure to take out one of these current SSDs. Now that more cycles have been completed, I'm not worried about the Samsung 840 like the author is. It's using up its overprovisioning at a slow - and more...

I've always had a soft spot for Dalwhinnie - a 1 liter bottle was my last 'duty-free' purchase. It used to be popular in desserts or in coffee, thanks to its smooth (for Scotch whisky) nature. If you're not really into peat, this is probably the ultimate highland whisky. Cheers, LiamC!

    Power-Loss-Protected SSDs Tested

Only 50%? There will be some certificates that are well-subscribed but others that no-one wants at all. Because these are gifts, overall I can't see much more than 20% utilized (this is an anecdotally-influenced guess). And frankly I think 30% additional revenue is wildly optimistic - if you...

    Your first computer?

These are the early computers I had at home, as opposed to used or built at work: My first computer was the HP-25. It was surprisingly powerful for something that could only handle 49 instructions, but severely limited by the 7-segment numeric display and non-persistent memory. My favorite...

    in-ceiling sound

Sort of. Near as I can tell, each channel has (up to) 3 speakers wired in parallel and then in series with a 5 ohm resistor, yielding a minimum of 7.7 ohms. You can disable the "protection circuit" and bypass the resistor, but that would overload your amplifier with more than 1 or 2 speakers...

    low-end laser printers these days?

Mubs, if text quality on a laser printer sucks, there's something wrong with one or more components such as the drum. low-end laser printers these days?

For duplex scanning, you need the MFC-9340CDW rather than the MFC-9330CDW. I have the Samsung CLX-6260FR. I received the two Zebralight floody headlamps (high CRI AA and 18650). The AA model is a bare LED with a reflector and comes with a pocket clip. You can tell Micro ATX by the 4 expansion slot covers at the back. These will almost certainly be perpendicular to the plane of the motherboard (just like a full ATX setup).
