    Need a Decent Phone

Mine was replacing a Galaxie J7 from over 5 years ago. Ironically the software for the separate work profile are what doomed the old phone. I didn't even want it since that was for work only. I'm hoping this new phone lasts for the duration if the battery holds up.

I received the A53 and acrtivation will ensue in Week 19. I don't understand some things about the modern 12 OS. So far the extremely short screen form factor is worse than I thought (designed for girls hands?) and there are 5 protrusive lenses/sensors. There is no headphone jack, but I knew...

Upgrading Samsung S5 SM-G900V to newer version of Android

I would buy a cheap tablet for home use. It is pretty awful that so many websites don't work except on a phone and in many cases an app is demanded rather than a browser. There is a Win 10/11 mobiles app for some banks, but permissions may also be problematic.

    Total Bytes Written Weirdness

The newer NVMe drives such as Samsung and WD have mystical SMART data. It's really BS. My WD SSDs in a laptop both indicate 100% remaining life in the Dashboard, but they each have a rating of 5100 TBW so it may take awhile. Is the granularity of % insufficient to mange your drive?

The EVF refresh rate and lag are practically eliminated with the R3, A1, and Z9, but the focus and other inherent mirrorless issues remain. The question is whether the R5 II will have a better system or maybe it will have to be the rumored R1. Ironically I am finding more use for the R5 in...

They are better than the R and RP of course, but the acquisition rate of even the modest 5D IV for OOF general subjects is way higher than the R5. Tony should stay with the DSLRs for a while longer. Despite the bullsh*t on the interwebs, the MILCs are still years away from DSLRs in some areas.

Do you have a 70D? I have most of the xxD bodies, but only used them occasionally for reach only with a 500/4 or 600/4 and usually a 1.4x. The 90D was the best of them. An improved 32MP sensor would indeed be nice, but probably too late for my purposes.

The increase in power can't be more than the increase in performance, can it? That would be bonkers. For example, I could understand 40% more power for double the performance, but ~300W would be the most I could handle. As it is I have to decide which equipment to have on that will not overload...

The situation sure is grim now, especially for the DX/EF-s croppers. Nikon and Canon don't have Jack in ML reach cameras with decent AF and proper controls. All Nikon has is the anemic Z50 and Canon has nothing but the useless M mount stuff. In 2015 Nikon had 24 MP DX with nice...

Well, you are young and have to suffer a little. ;) When you are more established you can buy a newer car. :) I started driving in a hand-me-down, used old car that needed something done every few months. That was in the old days when they had RWD, big block V8s, and 3-speed auto trans with...

Perhaps yes, but I did not expect that the seeks would be so loud although some had complained. I looked at so many drives that I can't recall if the 18GB Ultrastars were available or maybe not 5+ that price. Some sites only allow 1 or 2 at the discount price and then the rest are higher...

I suppose there are some advantages to having a true server like you have, since MAS has no BMC. :( It turns out that I forgot the WOL does not work with the SFP+ because that is off when the power is off. Only the 2.5GbE (RJ45) ports are able to accept WOL.

I suppose it is some stupid QNAP thing, since my Synololgy NAS units all boot in under 2 minutes. After logging in it takes about a minute to unlock each folder. I'm not sure what goes on during that time - drives are mapped and the root folders are visible immediately though. I can barely...

I finished copying and subsequently fully verifying the data that I want to keep. Overall I think the NAS works pretty well for the low-powered Ryzen. Over 70% of the cost was the hard drives. I only added the ECC RAM and repurposed an unused dual 10G SFP+ card. I may swap that for a...

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

That's about what I thought. I have the 3060 Ti since it was available last year without a crazy price. It's more of a card for 2560x1440 than 4K. Wouldn't brand new software be expected to need stronger cards than 20 series?

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

800mm is usually good for smaller species like little birds, but often too long for wildlife in general. A 600/4 is a better choice and works great with the dedicated TCs. A 600/4.5 or f/5 PF would have been just perfect, but the sports people demand f/4 and don't like the PF bokhes. I would...

Try it without the always on AF, i.e., don't let FOMO interfere with your technical and artistic development. (It's not an Iphone or secuirty camera.) Most photographers turn that off due to the funky AF behaviours. Use some combination of buttons on the back and/or C functions to select...

The studio is very good for the Adobe and other imaging programs, not necessarily general computing. The fact that the whole system including a good GPU fits in 8 lbs. and ~400W is quite impressive. From what I read, the key to performance is the natively coded programs for M1. Quite a few...

On which image processing software is the MAC 3x slower? It seems to me that most of the mainstream programs don't scale too well at higher core counts either PC or MAC. You can install an older firmware via methods found on the internets, though Canons are not designed for that. Perhaps you...

From the specs it looks that the QNAP is entirely different in the FS implementation. Instead of the Synology brfts and EXT4 they have the ZFS and EXT4. However, QNAP requires a whole new OS installation (Hero edition) to use the ZFS compared to the Synology that allows each volume to be...

After reading all about the AsusTor I think they missed the boat on a couple of items.
