    PCI-X SATA 2.0 Raid controller?

Sam: we have been on the net for what, 13 years now? Please remember, I have done exactly what you are talking about, and, I'm the one that is an access time advocate. Remember all those battles I had with Eugene??? Anyway, here's my take. The 9000 was so slow in data transfer, that it...

I bought 3 commodity boxes, two macs, one Dell, 3 mac laptops, and, the reason was every time I wanted to do something, the hardware, usually a key component, requiring entire unit replacement, wasn't up to the task. I haven't had that problem with any of the three computers built with custom...

    PCI-X SATA 2.0 Raid controller?

"Even 10 years ago, you could have purchased a $200 SCSI contoller and moved it from $100 motherboard to $100 motherboard and had a series of systems that were cheaper and faster than what you bought. Over time that 10 year old board has brought about a high opportunity cost, since you've been...

theSwede. OK. My SATA card does about 150 mb/sec. The Vertex Turbo is supposed to do 255 mb/sec. So, that is a huge loss in speed. The problem with PCI-X is finding a controller card that will handle 255 MB/sec, at least, per channel. None that work on PCI-X slots I can find will do that, yet...

Time: I found for the money, a 120 MHZ 1080p with a 10 bit screen makes a big difference. This is pretty much the VXT series from Vizio, or, the Sony's use 10 bit on their 120 MHZ or more models. I just watched Super Seven, about the africian animals that that phrase describes, and, it was...

I'm so sorry. The issue on the table is raid 0, 2 Vertex turbos, and what card can handle that, or 3 or 4 drives. Seems the best one right now is the 9550SXU. I'll let you know in a bit if I just bought a card for ebay, or, if it really is 200% faster then the 9000.

Enterprise is subject to careful shopping, as is commodity. I paid 500 for a Supermicro motherboard. 300 dollar board, plus SCSI onboard, same as a commodity mobo, with a SCSI raid card? No, the commodity was 300 plus 300 for the SCSI card. Advantage enterprise. Xeon 2.8 GHZ about 250 dollars...

    PCI-X SATA 2.0 Raid controller?

30 gigs is just a bit small for my OS, and programs. That was my main interest in getting two, and, finding a SATA 3 card that gets close to 300 mb/sec seems to be more difficult then one would think, in PCI-X.

To go a bit further, the onboard chipsets and raid controllers need to be up to the task as well. PCI-X SATA 2.0 Raid controller?

It's real clear with mine that the processors are capable of handling pretty much everything I throw at them, but, despite the SCSI, I still have a huge amount of room to transfer data more quickly. The 4 port card, if it is 200% faster, should give me at least 300 MB/sec, and, hopefully...

    PCI-X SATA 2.0 Raid controller?

I decided to go with a 9550SXU, and wait for SATA 6 motherboards, before I do the full monty. The two to 4 vertex turbos should come in around 300-500 mb/sec, on that controller, I hope. That should be enough to hold me over until SATA 6 is pretty common. My goal is to have a boot array with...

    PCI-X SATA 2.0 Raid controller?

OK. My perception is based on using the Raid 0 Vertex Turbo setup, on the 9500S. The writes are SO slow, and reads aren't that great, that in the functions that I have done with that setup, they just don't seem THAT much faster then the scsi setup. The writes are 20 MB/sec, that's about 1/5th...

I talked to a guy at Supermicro, and, they had a couple boards with advanced features and PCI-X, but, none with SATA 6 yet. PCI-X SATA 2.0 Raid controller?

Real problem is finding a PCI-X raid card that has channels fast enough to even make it worth raiding the SSDs. Apparentlty the 9550SXU is 200% faster or more, then my 9500. Since the 9500 does 62 mb/sec, that should mean around 190 mb/sec per channel. Problem is, they are 300 dollars, and...

After lots of playing, it's the 9500S that's the problem. With a single drive, it's max is 63 mb/sec per channel. On the 3112 I'm getting around 124-126 MB/sec writes, and, 133-138 MB/sec reads. Kind of weird, since the slot it's in shouldn't be that fast. The debate now is to try and boot...
