Computer stocks, or, how to loose 100 grand, quickly...

Flyby: My point is simple: The value of a stock has little to do with the actual company. What it is controlled by is the amount of money someone sinks into the stocks. PERIOD. You are playing a rich man's game, and, they have no care for the company, only making money on trading the stocks.

Computer stocks, or, how to loose 100 grand, quickly...

Udaman is raving about Apple stock prices. I thought I'd bring up my experience with stocks. Prior to 2000, I put some money in stocks, and, with the crash, pretty much lost it. My memories are: Apple: 3 bucks a share, almost bankrupt. Maybe less. It was trading like a penny stock, and, no...

HTPC and HD and 1080 system requirements?

What a fun morning. Newest flash player helped. My 1650 now has the 9.3 driver, that shows up as an 8.59 driver on checking. Stupid and confusing numbering system. I must say, everytime someone says change drivers with an ATI card, it's usually a pain in the arse, and, not a huge difference...

HTPC and HD and 1080 system requirements?

What type of media is this? It's playing reasonably well on the Dual Xeon box, with ATI 1650. Using between 75% and 99% processors. Appears Ad Blocker was using quite a bit of CPU as well, and, it's better after removing it.

HTPC and HD and 1080 system requirements?

It appears to be a software problem. Neither Firefox 3.5.2 or Internet Explorer 8 are capable of playing a downloaded 1080p file from MSFT's website. I'm using the 1080p version of Step into Liquid, and, it plays fine with Windows Media Player classic, slide shows with Firefox, Internet Explorer...

Apple: The mini-monopoly finally draws heat...

No, as a former Mac 10 year user, I can remember many 3rd party software writers put out of business by Apple. Write a decent ap for the mac, they would either copy it, and modify it just a little, so they could put it into their software, either OS, or for sale, and run you out of business...

    Rotating your IP address?

When I shut everything down, and back up, it still shows the same IP address. Is the firefox add on showing my IP behind my router firewall? How would I see what addresses are present outside our firewall, or, what the router firewall presents as an IP address?

    Rotating your IP address?

That would be my thought. However, a cheap electronic item, and, everyday you aren't really turning off, your blacking it out by pulling the power plug out, or turning off the power source. Can't be real good for it??? My understanding was they lasted longer protected by a surge protector.

OK: First off, the dual xeons have been REALLY fast, since when most people where using 30 mb/sec 5400 rpm drives, I was using 2 X 15's in raid 0 for a boot drive. SSDs - State of the Product?

I agree. The only thing is, I'm not going from a 7200 rpm drive with a 16 ms Random Access time to a SSD. I guess what I'm getting at is after checking these benchmarks, here is what I come up with. Access time is .02 ms for a SSD. For mine it's 6.0 ms. So, 29 times faster. From the tests on that website, the highest sustained read is 144 mb/sec. Seems like not a bunch different. Take the raid...
