My FF is still working, but it is from March. Is there some reason that it requires an update?

Of course the cat image is understandable, but I quoted the earlier post with an image from a room with a workout machine and another maybe inside a garage. Does nobody else see this?

    Window treatments v. cellular shades

I don't know why it should be so complicated. There are hundreds of companies that will make you blinds. Many are small and family owned rather than corporate. Obviously if you want to be a Joe Vila that is another thing.

    State of the CPUs

20% is significant. 10% matters. I'm not sure about perceptual measurements, but if one batch takes 75 minutes vs. 60 minutes, that's 15 minutes gained. Intel had 5GHz in 2018, so maybe 4.5GHz without the anti-malware would be equal.

I need best possible single thread performance with the Windows 10 security junk. Isn't the speed close to proportional for the single thread?

    State of the CPUs

I'm concerned about the speeds dropping and heat increasing with increasing cores. I can live with a few extra cores so long as it can clock to 5+GHz on air, but I don't want a crazy power drain or unstable, exotic setup. ;)

    State of the CPUs

I was thinking about CPUs 16 months ago, but the maleficent Meltdown and Spectator dimmed my hopes of gaining enough improvements to be worth the hassle. Now that Windows 7 is coming to an end soon, I'm looking at new systems again. Have there been improvements against the anti-malware impact...

    Window treatments v. cellular shades

It was some years ago, but the 3rd day blinds made some "blackout" shades. They are really just an opaque blind, compared to the ones that let through diffused light. I keep them closed all the time for obvious reasons.

Adapting cruise control is all over the place in 2018+ cars, even in a cheap rental vehicle I had this year. So is remote start. The software doesn't lock up displays though. Telsa has been around a mere few years compared to the established makes like Toyota and Volkswagen group making 10...

I do want to buy a used car

I think much of the remote stuff requires cell service, but I may be wrong. Usually that can be disconnected or disabled as it requires some kind of cell plan to be activated. I read that the Telsa and some others want to require the driver to use a cell phone instead of an RFID key in some...

I have an 8GB one and it sucks. Lately I have been using small MP3 device that also has the Blu-tooth. Mostly I just use wires, so it lasts almost 24 hours. The main issue is that the fonts are very small, but at least it is OLED. The old SanDisk OLED players were better.

SSD is still expensive for a reasonable quantity of storage. I have 12x10TB of HDDs in my main NaSD, 13x8TB in the secondary, and a bunch of extra arrays off in the central zone. I don't even know how to replace them with SSDs other than a homemade server or maybe the FS3017. A few years ago...

The Hitachi NAS drives are discontinued. You'd have to buy a WD Red (5400) or Pro (7200). The Seagate alternatives are the IronWolves. The newer 8TB drives have been taken off helium, so you need 10TB to get the cool running drives.

HGST was purchased by WD years ago. They just did not change the name for a while due to the positive reputation of HGST in the enterprise market. Some of the 8TB drives are now atmospheric rather than helium filled. Given that 14TB is now the high standard, I would be looking at 10TB for...
