SSDs - State of the Product?

Holy crap that is a 2008 CPU and chipset! It should be in a museum or relegated to some secondary purpose. Maybe replacing the ancient X25Ms with a single modern SSD will help a little.

SSDs - State of the Product?

I'd suggest an M.2 870 EVO Plus or similar with a cheap PCIe adapter card. Add the NVMe drivers before moving the image to the M.2 drive.

Well of course. SanDisk (now WD) was always behind it since CF and CFast were doomed.

Well, I'll see how it goes in 2020 when I am forced to the Windows 10. Maybe there is some way to test the links and not lose the page, but that usually occurs. Of course a longer time will not harm anything.

4k video playback: What do you really need?

The content providers want to suck money from the consumers on a continuous basis. They don't want you to buy a disc and watch it many times over a multi-year period.

How will waiting longer fix link problems? I assumed that this new, modern forum would not have as many link problems.

SSDs - State of the Product?

That seems like the Mac fusion drives like 10 years ago. Once the SSD part is continuously filled it slows down. Anyway I don't want any hard drives in the main computer. I've considered using the JBLOD for a pair of 4TB SSDs, but I read that one is completely filled prior to the second so...

HAMR or Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording. 100 TB HDD by 2025.

You are the 4th person that says I buy too many drives. ;) Mainly I think everyone should be aware that WD has now gone to the shingles. The problem is that the spec sheet does necessarily not indicate which drives are shingled and which are not. I have two external Seagate drives that are...

I do want to buy a used car

I drove all over the PA, not sure where since the GPS was confused for an hour. There are numerous two-lane back roads and old homes, buildings, etc. Participants were not amused. The airport was on delay as well. :( The car surely did not have a powered steering wheel. However, it was not...

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

The performance of the chipset as well as the power supply may be maxed out before that. As you know there is already a max shutter burst to prevent overheating. If there is overheating I can't remember if it slows down or completely stops.

SSDs - State of the Product?

No, it's not really a backup since the second NAS is for that. I just prefer to work from an SSD.

    Phone Charging Control

Thanks. I tried it last week and forgot to reply. There is some useful info displayed, but it doesn't do anything to control the charge. One would think that the Google would add charge control to Androids, but maybe the phone company wants to sell more phones. :D

SSDs - State of the Product?

The battery pack is not relevant here. Anyway, the amount of new data is not the issue. If I move data back and forth from NAS to the SSD 5 times, it may be almost the same each time.

It depends on the efficiency, which was about 82%. That is not bad for the type of product and load.

SSDs - State of the Product?

An EVO it is a degenerate object, so of course I'm the object of derision. I'm not sure what your issue is with the EVO or 4TB in particular. I have the 2TB M.2 in a notebook. At least I know EVO is not some cheesy little car.
  31. LunarMist

SSDs - State of the Product?

Why, are you making fun of the EVO? ;) I didn't think it was worth the EVO Pro for large data and low IOPs. I've moved everything else to all those NAS arrays, so a larger capacity would be great to store more locally in the PC. I've thought about RIAD 0, but I had some problems with that...

That only covers failed hoses claimed on insurance? I'd expect that some hoses never fail before being replaced for various reasons. I think it makes sense to replace hoses when appliances are changed or remodeling is done.

SSDs - State of the Product?

860 EVOs are fine, but the smaller capacity models slow down once the SLC buffer is used and they have much less of that]ouldn't even consider anything less than the 1TB if performance matters. The 4TB EVOs are working fine for me, though there is a lot of juggling at that limited capacity.

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

I don't know why I thought it was a 50. Perhaps it was the comparison with the old Canon 50/1 EF lens. Given the horrific vignetting in this type of design, the T-stop will be around 1.1-1.2.

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

What they need is a new 24-105/4 or something like it. The 24-120 rather sucks. Meanwhile they put out a 50/0.95 without focus. :( It is beyond stupidity for 2019.
