The newer motherboards that I will be ordering do not have any serial ports. But they do have a serial port connector on the motherboard. I would like to use this connector if posible. I have been searching for an adaptor but what I end up finding are pci cards that have serial ports on them...

He should be able to select the first hard drive to boot from in the BIOS. If he boots from the CD, presses F6 and installs the SATA drivers, agrees to the EULA-press F8, then he should be presented with two Win2K installs to repair. (if both hard drives are attached). Picking one to repair...

The MBR needs to be repaired. It's confused. 'fdisk /mbr' 'fixmbr' from the recovery consul. The SATA drive needs to have Win2K reinstalled with the IDE attached. This would set up the dual boot menu and fix the MBR. Bozo :joker:

I think that is more marketing than anything else. I didn't know Hitachi made hard drives, but everybody has heard of IBM. Not many outside the enthusiest group know that Samsung makes hard drives, but almost everybody has heard of WD hard drives. Bozo :joker:

I can't see how you got two boot.ini files. Windows 200 will automatically make a dual boot menu for you. At this point you have nothing to lose. so... Disconnect the IDE drive. Then boot from your 2000 CD. Add drivers when promted. After you agree to the EULA, you should say "looking for...

I believe the WD and IBM had a technology sharing agreement a while back. The hard drives were identical inside. You could use IBM hard drive utilities on a WD drive. I don't know if this is still true though. Bozo :joker:

I use mostly WD hard drives. I have been waiting for WD1600YD drives for a few weeks now. WD800JD and WD800JB take longer to get than they did a month or so ago. I am also limited where I buy from as I have to use the "Authorized Vender" and buying from the 'net is forbidden. Bozo :joker:

With all the trouble I'm having getting anything Intel, maybe it's a supply problem at Intel's end. That's the only reason I can think of that would have Intel using ATI chipsets on their motherboards. :crap: Bozo :joker:

Why by a NAS? Why set up an old computer with Linux and some large hard drive in it. After setup, remove the monitor and keyboard and service it with VNC. Even a 486 machine should work. Bozo :joker:
