TrueCrypt makes a large file that the software then mounts like a drive. Basically an encrypted drive image. Regardless, I don't think Lunar is taking the best line of attack here. I would expect the NAS supports encryption. Second, I don't understand what personal data is worth encrypting...

You have single files larger than 8TB? What is the file system of the NAS? NTFS has limits to the max size of a file, but I'm sure the NAS doesn't run NTFS.

Most of the companies I've worked for have had small enough operations in the geographic region I live in that by simply telling you who either of my last two employers were I would basically identify myself down to one of a handful of people. If I told you both it'd narrow that to a single...

N.V. and envy are basically the same, so it seems to come down to whether M.E. is emmy or me.

Intel X299: What is it good for?

Intel needs a swift kick in the pants every so often. The last time AMD was competitive we got the Core/Core 2 architecture.

Intel X299: What is it good for?

I guess Intel's spoonfeeding us 5-10% improvements with each generation for 6 generations since Sandy Bridge eventually gave AMD enough time to pretty much get caught up to them.

    NAS Drive

Lightweight! What redundancy are you using this time around? You're only after 20TB? I was thinking of something like 10 of them in RAID-6, as an array upgrade to my server (though I don't need more space). I'd move the current 10x6TB RAID-6 array into the still to be assembled "new"/old...

I've seen the SAS Enterprise version for $420 too. I don't see why someone would try to save $20 and get a significantly lower MTBF and a slightly slower drive. So they give you data recovery. Big deal... I'm sure that doesn't help someone using them in RAID. It's not like you're paying...

Hmm... sounds like the motherboard might be bad or the video chipset is though I'm not entirely sure why it's sensitive to differences in the power supply. Does it have a PCIe x16 graphics slot you could try a discrete card in?

    Server rack suggestions?

It looks like I have 59.5" from the concrete to the bottom of the quasi rack I have hanging from the floor joists. I would guess that even with the casters it's not quite that tall, but I wouldn't anticipate a lot of room between them.
