My computer has started to smell.

Go for it. Let me now how it goes, I'm interested in that PS also.

My computer has started to smell.

Beware of the possible problems with that new Antec PS and some motherboards (I think it was Asus A8N). Check silentpc forums. How about the Seasonic 430W? What's the price of that?

    I'm Diskless!

RMA it. Just bad luck. Try to boot it again a few times, if you have something important there. Just in case it boots up for a while and you can backup something. Besides that, there are three different groups that I consider when getting drives ;) : 1. 15k rpm (Maxtor or Seagate) 2. 250+GB...

    Help w/ high-end PSU

That does it. I'm replacing my Nexus 350W with a Seasonic 500W tomorrow. Been looking at the reviews at silentpcreview for a long time, and drooling over them due to them being so quiet. Running my P4 3.2@3.44 24/7 makes the Nexus quite loud.

    Folding@Home

I just removed my Nexus 350W PW from the case, and put it on top of my case. MB and CPU temps increased a bit, probably due to less efficient airflow in the case(leakage due to the hole left by the PS), but the PS is much more silent, as it's getting only air of ambient temperature through it...

You need to put the client in 2 different directories, and make sure the machine id on those two are different. And if you have 4 clients, you need to have them in 4 different directories, and make sure their machine ID's are 1,2,3 and 4. Nexus fans are recommended quite highly at...

Yeah Greg, don't you have dual Xeons, meaning you could run 4 instances of FAH on that powermachine? My 3.2 P4 is running 2 instances of FAH. It's on 24/7 due to the fact it's quite silent. My 3.2 A64 is only on about half the time. And my fileserver with a 3.0 P4 (don't ask, it was for FAH ;)...

    KISS players/recorders

We're stuck with them, at least in the year 2007 when you can't watch anything with only a tv. They can't even get the subs right 100% of the time.

I'm sure you're right about the epia solution, if the power supply is silent then that would be one of the most silent solutions. So convenient with these set top boxes, my parents have 3 tv's. That would mean 3 set top boxes for digital receiving. And for channels like animal planet and...

    KISS players/recorders

I think I might be more comfortable building something on those lines, more like a normal PC, than building an epia thingy. This darn digital-tv thing sucks big time. Finland will phase out analog broadcasts in 2 years time, meaning you won't see anything from your nice TV unless you have a...

Getting a VIA CPU and MB is about 200+euros here, so a bit more expensive. This and a silent power supply, 160GB Samsung, memory and one or two cards from here: http://shop.technotrend.de/shop.php?mode=show_group&sid=a843ae43f76ddeebae2f7286ff3f5bf0&group=2 All this would add up quite a bit :(

I've got my computers in my study, keeping the noise away from the livingroom. If I'm to build a computer and put that in the living room, it would have to be silent, as in no sound I can hear in the middle of the night. It would also need to be small and good looking, to keep me and my wife...

Hmm, mine seems more quiet than my X15-36lp at idle!? The seeks do make noise, but I do not find that disturbing. This in a Antec 3000B case, with Zalman 7700 at minimum and Nexus 3500 (very quiet even with the 15K). For me it was a pleasant surprise, noise wise...
