3 years is just too long for WD

As far as I can tell, HD manufacturers don't want to supply any warranty other than paid 3rd party warranty's. From my experience, recent HD's, regardless of manufacturer, are not reliable period. From their point of view any warranty, even a short one, is simply an insurance policy that costs...

Well, I've had my phone line running on MJ+ for a couple of days. The voice quality is not delectably different either sending or receiving calls. When I called myself on my original line there is a time delay but I don't think it would be noticeable when there is no reference. Hardware is...

Santilli, I really thought that you were a big believer in the try-it and return-it philosophy considering all the TV's and monitors that have been returned to Costco. Under your current rules you would have tried it, returned it and said I'll never buy anything from Costco again. Costco...

    New i7s

I rather look at the changes as the equivalent to a service pack. The main change is the die-shrink from 32nm (Sandy Bridge) to 22nm (Ivy Bridge). A smaller chip is directly equatable to fewer defects/chip (unless they really screwed up in the die-shrink); more chips/wafer; and significantly...

    New i7s

What I would like to know are prices on the new Ivy-Bridge LGA 1155 chips. Since this is basically just a die-shrink, Intel's costs per chip will significantly decrease. So the question is -- Will the savings be passed along to the consumer, or will Intel use it to significantly increase their...

I put in an ebay bid using a sniping service for a used Ooma Telos. There are lots of them offered so I suspect that if not this auction, another will appear. I read reviews and it seems to be a very good option though it costs more than MagicJack+. At least they support their product. One...

    MagicJack+ opinions

I don't know that you can use a MagicJack experience to judge MagicJack+. The main reason is basic HW. The original MagicJack connected to your computer using USB then used software to drive the Ethernet port on your computer while the MagicJack+ has the HW built in and directly connects the...

I'm interested in other possible ways of VOIP, but I haven't seen anything else cheaper. No, I don't have a smart phone. At some level, one needs some form of HW to plug a phone into (not interested in just computer-phone for I still need it to ring throughout my apt.). Then in addition to...

    Folding@Home

The new bulldozer server chips are going to suck at folding comparatively. Each two cores have to share one FP unit. Folding uses FP, so you only get 1/2 the cores. A 16 core 6200 series chip effectively only has 8 FP cores. The older 6100 Mangy-Cours series has one FP per core so a 12 core...
