Spoken like a true cruncher! ;) I'm glad about the move, the speed increase is good. The old one was starting to feel very slow. I wondered why suddenly I couldn't find more recent posts than 6th of August.... Unforgivable lack of communication.

Isn't the upcoming X15.4 able to push about 90+MB/s on it's outer tracks? STR. Burst speeds are then limited by PCI bus etc... Compared to that it's not bad, if we're talking about STR.

Atto gives me weird results on my Atlas 10k3 (14MB/s max). Try out the latest HDtach : http://www.simplisoftware.com/Public/index.php?request=HdTach and post the results you get from that.

You said you the tried a cheetach? What Cheetach? 73MB/s is very good in my opinion. For large data amounts, that's pretty much the STR of the drive, not too much interference from cache. Perhaps you should try some other benchmarks also?

    Need SCSI Help

Ah, you're talking about the speed of the BUS, not the actual drive here. That's the speed of the Ultra Wide (UW) 40MB/s bus it uses. U2W would be the 80MB/s and so on, but what the drive can push out onto the bus is another matter.

    XP3200+ Stability issues

First thing that struck me was the FSB, any possibility of memory problem or something similar? Have to check, but isn't the 2800 a 333FSB, the 3000 can be had as 333 and 400, and the 3200 as 400FSB?

How long does your bad sector HDD survive?

Nowadays, if a drive gets bad sectors, it's an immediate RMA for that drive when I'm dealing with them. IF the drive is recently new, let's say larger than 40GB. No idea to wait for it to break totally. It usually happens at the worst possible moment.

Fan placement and drive cage question

What's your advice regarding these two questions? I've used the X15 in my main computer for some time, and the sound from it really started to bug me. I then tried to remove the drive from the drive cage (Antec 1240 case, Nexus 300W PS) and put it on top of some sound absorbing pieces at the...

    Doom 3

Doh, tried the game, and couldn't play with anything fancy on, seemed my GPU couldn't handle it (or more precisely, I think having only 64MB was the culprit). LSI or Adaptec 160 for controller, in my opinion. This way you'd have some expansion room, bus wise, if you decide to put another drive in there. I'm assuming one drive in the beginning. How many drives are you planning on attaching? As for a drive, go for Seagate X15.3, so you'll feel some...

    APC UPS buying time

Thanks everyone. About the 1 to many issue, the Back-ups CS 350Va can be had for about 70€, while the CS 500Va is about 85€. It might be enough to get one 350 and 2*500, which would total about 240€. Then again, I'll end up with a lot more cables and boxes, and I'm not overly thrilled with this...
