    Personal Finance Software

I got used to the new version. I just figured the less usable parts were because I got the basic version of 2004. But maybe I was wrong and 2004 went backwards in terms of usability. 2004 isn't as 'usable' as 2000 was to me. I miss the main screen of 2000. It had most of what I needed in one...

    Personal Finance Software

What do you need it to do? I used quicken deluxe 2000 for a while and just upgraded to quicken basic 2004. But with both I use a separate spreadsheet called checking account projections. This allows me to see what my balance will be. So maybe something like this spreadsheet is sufficient for...

    XML/XSLT/HTML Q?

I haven't been through the book yet, but I would recommend: XSLT Programmers Reference. SuperCaff probably could help with specifics. I mostly have to read and slightly modify XSL not write it from scratch.

New project by main developer of mozilla's composer called nvu. Still kind of beta but it should be usable for a site like that, which incidentally locked firefox up something fierce.

    Adware - The New Scourge

RE: separate user/admin accounts For businesses, that is a choice they have to make. My particular business has almost everyone as a local administrator. We are mostly programmers and from time to time need local administrator rights to our machines. We don't get the domain administrator...

    Adware - The New Scourge

I don't agree on this. Maybe ideally but it is such a pain to have to logout and log back in as administrator to do something. Sure you can use run as to do most things but I made myself a local admin a long time ago and never looked back. If windows XP pro supported the fast-user switching...

    Adware - The New Scourge

I should note that she uses Netscape, albeit like 6.2 or something like that. In my mind the probable sources of adware/spyware are: 1) IE - specifically activex behaviour 2) File sharing networks (P2P) - I'm not familiar with the players here so I lump them all together. Is there a legit use...

    Adware - The New Scourge

I recently visited my mom as she was reporting windows booting into safe mode. Her resolution just needed to be set right. But I decided to check it with an AV and Adaware while I was there. All clean, well except for a couple of cookies. This is in a 2-3 months timeframe since the last...

Ever wanted to know the thoughts of car fans?

My pops has a nice yellow car exactly like yours timwhit. Initially my sister bought it (moms cosigning). Then she went away and the parents got stuck with it. There is a club around here with owners of this car and they are almost all yellow. She painted the inside of her doors. My pops had...

[NEWS] - New Blu-Ray video disk is made of paper

The supreme master of origami achieved the ultimate by encoding 25GB of data on paper.... Seriously it is mostly paper on the label side to allow for better printing on that side. Seems interesting, though I'm not sure how long they will last.

[NEWS] - Iomega launches 90GB removable disk

At first I was like, hey that might be a good thing to replace my zip drive. Then I looked at the price. That is way too expensive a drive. The individual disks aren't that bad but should be under $50 in my opinion. A monster IDE drive in a removable/external enclosure is probably cheaper...

    Sealed plastic clamshell packaging

bling-bling: I believe this originated in the rap world where it referred to the 'stylish' items they wear such as their gold chains and such. It has since extended to the 'phat' customizations on cars such as chrome wheels and 'tricked out' interiors. Lately the term has also showed up in some...

Had to deal with the plastic packaging from hell this weekend. For a $15 mouse, which incidentally fits its need quite well. Link is to best buy but I got it at target for $14.99. I needed a 'real' mouse for use with the laptop. When designing forms and what not and doing pixel specific work...

    winme & wininit.exe

Yes I'm deciding how best to approach the matter of replace ME with XP to them. I might suggest 2K instead as they might not need any more ram. XP may slow down their PC though... at least every XP home install I've come across is slow.
