I really must be missing something basic here because I don't see what the problem with just natively sharing the data over your network. Just plug your external drive into one of the machines and share the data. Both Mac's and Microsoft has that capability builtin. The underlying file system...

One thing of note. I don't know about MSDN, but the Action Pack is a subscription-based license. Meaning, if you let your subscription lapse, by not renewing, you are supposed to cease using all the software from the Action Pack. So, instead of licensing the software at a fixed price, the...

I too think that cable is a good idea but only if you can fit a second PS in your case. Typically, a case that can fit two PS's is a speciallity item. You can always try drilling some holes, if you've got the space inside, but be careful with the metal shavings.

Do note SLI is not currently supported, but four individual cards is. I don't think it would be nearly as bad as you'd think. It will be relatively high but folding tends to be significantly less stressfull than actual 3d Gaming. Also, it is now common for the system power usages to be given...

There are several factors. The first is OC'ing. Next is Windows vs Linux. Third is processor scaling. I find that for a Q9450 I'm getting a very good OC. Most Q9450 chips are not stable beyond 3.2GHz in a non-folding enviornment and folding is very stressfull on the chip. My Q6600 was not...

You should be getting much higher PPD than that: Try around 4000-4400 PPD, stock. There is something wrong, if you are only getting 1000. The main problem the the Nvidia GPU2 client, well two actually, is that the client isn't very stable and it slows down standard 2D graphics making your...

Suggestions for speeding up a Vista laptop

When Vista first came out, I installed it on a 3.2GHz P4 with 512MB and it was totally unacceptable: There were multi-second pauses between every action. Going to 1GB removed the pauses, and going to 2GB made it comparable to XP with 1GB. Getting extra ram is a big deal This was with a...

I actually haven't personally compared a stock Q6600 (@2.4 GHz) to a Stock 9450 (@2.66GHz). My Q6600 won't OC in the MB it is in and I have only run SMP on the Q9450 OC'ed. I will universally agree, that the Q9300 is better than the Q6600. The issue brought up by Udaman was that he thought the Xeon L5420 was better than the Q9300 and with that I disagree. The Xeon has a bigger cache and a lower power envelope. However, it costs more, and will require a costly...

The problem with Xeon processors are FB-RAM (very hot, slow, and costly) combined with Xeon server motherboards ($$$) and thusly, the system cost will be far higher. Then there is that the energy cost for FB-RAM will be far higher than the energy savings of the low wattage processor. FB-RAM...
