Poor me? My company pays for the device (and upgrades). They pay for the service. They pay for my broadband at home. They pay me. So once in a while I do work off-hours. No big deal; there are millions of people who take a little work home with them; my work is just a bit more 'official'...

My Treo and several other current-generation Palm OS products continually back main RAM to NVRAM. Lose the battery and you can't access your data until it's recharged, but you don't lose the data itself. Being available 24x7 is a requirement of my job. A pager may suffice for notification...

    Beverages

CFDC was my soda of choice, but Diet Coke with Lime has recently risen to the top. Second place is now a tie between CFDC and the Lo-Carb (sugar free) Monster energy drink. Monster's a bit on the expensive side, though, so I buy it by the case at Sam's Club. Funny how I'll call a buck a can...

    A hodge-podge of tyres

Legal? Sure. There's no law that I've ever heard of that says your tires have to match. Safe? Safe enough. If the spare is really old it's rubber may have deteriorated some but otherwise what you're planning is fine. You're taking the correct route by matching front-to-front for the new...

A quick Google is showing World Clock on the Visor. It's even pictured here. Of course, if you're looking to spend on a watch, you could instead pick up the new color Z22 that's $99. The specs show World Clock is included.

mubs, if you have a PDA there are "world clocks" that show, for instance, up to five cities at a time. A little less convenient than a watch, but not nearly as inconvenient as needing access to a PC or internet connection.

Right now, my current favorite brand is Citizen. Their Eco-Drive watches never need batteries but don't stink of "hey, I'm solar so look at me!" Analog faces have a more upscale look than digital, at least compared to the digitals I've seen. Street prices are usually from under $200 to around...

    Beverages

I picked up a half dozen bottles of red ice wine a couple of weeks back. First time I've seen it in red. e_dawg, I freely admit to liking the sweeter white wines. I just can't get my taste buds to like too dry of a beverage or one with too strong of an oaken taste. For instance, with...

    Car Buying Advice Needed

Actually, dealerships tend to get kickbacks, or "referral fees" from the banks they get customers to finance through, so car finance is a revenue source for them. As such, they'd encourage you to finance over paying cash.

    Car Buying Advice Needed

Exactly. Autos are expenses; not investments. With few exceptions, motorized transportation depreciates over time. From a finance standpoint it makes sense to minimize the expense and the perpetual lease payment simply doesn't deliver. The monthly payment itself may be lower but the cost...

    Religious Faith and Society

Of course not. Homosexuality is not the real problem; pedophilia is. I still wonder about our society when the public is letting the church get away with sending these rapists (under age = automatic non-consent) to other places vs. sending them to the county lockup where they belong.

    Car Buying Advice Needed

Considering how long a decently maintained modern car can last, leasing makes less financial sense than buying. I bought new in 99, paid it off in two years, and have enjoyed no payments for nearly the past 5 years. Just maintenance, which however you slice it is cheaper than lease/buy...

I recall the firmware stuff, but my mind doesn't normally retain specific dates very well for things of lesser importance so I didn't remember exactly when I had purchased it. I use the MX-1000 'laser' mouse and like it a lot. But I'm not a gamer so I couldn't comment on how well it'd perform in a gaming environment. I also use Logitech MX-700s and a 510. I've used nothing but Logitech mice whenever possible since about 1985.

It's not FF. It works just fine for me using FF 1.0.6 and QT 6.1. In general, embedded media issues are more than likely the fault of the media player provider doing something they shouldn't be doing.

    Wither English?

Asynchronous Transfer Mode, actually. :) Do ATMs use ATM? Yeah, that's a pet peeve of mine. Acronyms were meant to shorten these terms to something manageable and yet here we are expanding them and actually making them worse. Another I see all the time: "DNS server" - Domain Name Server...
