More credible than IOmeter? Is there something wrong with IOmeter? I've never heard of FIO. Unfortunately, the website is pretty much devoid of any information about it. I looked at the help file, it looks versatile, but I'm not sure where it fits compared to IOmeter.

Slower at what? It's hard to say. If they didn't offer the CPU in a configuration from eMachines, I wouldn't bet on it being supported. It might be, it might not be. It also might not have enough current capability or a power supply capable of feeding a faster chip that uses more power...

So, then what do you mean by glacially slow? BTW, how do you know your eMachines will support any of these faster CPUs?

An actual Atto run. Of course the results are totally bogus because the datasize is smaller than the amount of cache on the RAID card, but the results still put a smile on my face. :mrgrn:

I'd basically agree with that. The Android version is extra special though. It doesn't cache any e-mail, so it's totally worthless without a data connection. Even rotating the phone 90 degrees will cause it to re-download the e-mail. Exchange based e-mail on a Blackberry and iPhone (used at...

If I make a backup of a Windows 7 system, upgrade it to Windows 10, and then restore the backup of Windows 7... Can I clean install Windows 10 on the system sometime after 7/29/16 when the 1 year free offer is over and have everything be happy? Or should I do the clean install prior to 7/29/16...

    Windows 10

Someone on Hardforum said they've successfully clean installed Windows 10 on new hardware with a Windows 7 key using the Nov 2015 media several times. Better than I was expecting for a two drive RAID-1 array. Both drives connected to the HP SAS expander (limiting them to 3Gbps) Direct IO, disk cache disabled, write back and read ahead cache on the controller were enabled. I wasn't anticipating pretty much consistent performance from the...

First two Toshiba 6TB drives are here. Wiredzone packs them very nicely. They're plugged in and are working without any issue. I made a RAID-1 array of the two drives (connected through the expander) and am running my Super ATTO IOmeter test pattern right now.

HTPC upgrade? New mobo + CPU + RAM only

Hmm... This get a little more complicated. The CPU cooler I'm currently using, Scythe Ninja Plus, can't be used for Socket H3 / LGA1150. That leaves me looking for a new cooler, which is more money into the project. Oh well, it's only money... I also had my mind refreshed about Haswell's...

HTPC upgrade? New mobo + CPU + RAM only

My LGA775 Intel E5200 HTPC running Windows 7 (32-bit) is getting a little irksome in some regards. Basically, my main complaint is that background OS tasks like Windows Update processing and downloading updates can cause stuttering or dropped frames when they occur during video playback. My...

That's basically what ASRock told me. They should work, but they haven't tested them since they're focused mostly on testing all the possible Xeon chips. The main takeaway from my e-mail back and forth with them is that they haven't taken any steps to block the use of CPUs not on the list...

Am I missing something? The CPU support list for the ASRock motherboard I'm considering seems to have missing chips. Like the i3-4130 is there, but not the i3-4170. Or, the i3-4360 is there, but not the i3-4370. Does it mean the missing chips won't work or just that ASRock hasn't explicitly...

There are restrictions on both Lithium Ion batteries and Lithium Primary cells on airlines and whether you can have them in your checked luggage or not, how many you can have, etc. The rules aren't very hard to find.

Blu-ray audio ripping - preserving LPCM

You don't need the exact discs, just ones that are a similar size. I haven't seen this for any of the recent drives. Some people made tools to edit the firmware image. AFAIK, the SW doesn't support newer drives. The older (slower) LG drive in my posted results had the speed tweaks. The new...

Lets not get ahead of ourselves here. I didn't say OS X was good, or a great OS. I personally hate it. What I said is it was easy for Mac OS users to use despite being totally different underneath. Someone could make a Linux desktop environment that is very easy for Windows users to use...

Here's the post with the results. Using LG's comparator it looks like the burner Handy asked about should be equally fast for ripping. Of course actual results don't always match the specs. I also haven't tested my newer Pioneer BDR-2209 burner against them either so it's possible it's...

Blu-ray audio ripping - preserving LPCM

At a high level without access to the specs it appears that UHD Blu-ray uses BD-XL media, but who knows if they will do something to them to make them incompatible with drives that support BD-XL media. Are you looking for a USB powered portable, or a 5.25" drive in an enclosure?

It looks like 4Kn has no real advantage. It's not supported until Windows 8. Further any program that tries to directly access the HW directly 512 byte sectors may fail / error out. The only potential advantage I see is that you can support up to 16TB without going GPT. However, that doesn't...
