    Mini PC

I've been wanting to do this for so long. 1. Put Motherboard (already populated with CPU, M.2, RAM) and GPU (laying next to each other connected by PCIe cable) in CNC machine and use the digital indicator to precisely map out the location and height of every component. 2. Design and machine a...

JTR, one of the reasons that a lower MP count on the same sized sensor can be better is that there are gaps between the sensor pixels. They do all kinds of tricky things with lenses trying to grab it all, but it isn't perfect. More pixels on the same size sensor, particularly as the sensors get...

To revisit the get off my lawn club, the first computer I got to use was when the Epson HX-20 was no longer in use in an application my dad had written in the early 80s. In the late 80s I was able to write some code, save it to the tape, and output to the thermal printer. It was awesome...

My first EV was a 2013 Tesla Model S, very early car, they'd only made a few thousand at that point. That battery still had 95% of it's rated life in 2022 after 145k miles. Even if it didn't, it was still under warranty when I sold it.

Back then it was a struggle, but that is what made it interesting both as a hobby and a side hustle. When even normal users would appreciate every drop of performance you could squeeze out of their system, and new systems that were significantly faster could be built every year. I think of this...

For the record, I no longer drive like a maniac, at least in Denmark. 25% over the limit and you lose your license, 100% over the limit and they seize whatever car you were driving and auction it off. Not your car? Now you really have problems. Of course, on the derestricted autobahn I take the...

I use the trains in Denmark all the time, they aren't high-speed here, but the country is so small it hardly matters. Getting to Copenhagen by train is still faster than driving, and only costs twice as much as the toll bridge anyway. When we were in The Netherlands about a month ago we used...

The first PC that I built for myself was a Celeron 300A overclocked to 450Mhz. Yes, 50% overclock was a thing back then. And it was awesome. https://www.anandtech.com/show/174 I'd been building PCs for other people since the 486/66 days, but didn't have the money to do my own until I moved out...

It is entirely possible that anxiety around driving in New England relying on non-Tesla chargers is completely rational. The only charging network that doesn't have a bad reputation seems to be the Superchargers. It helps that the App and the vehicle itself communicates clearly how many chargers...

There is no way $10k is enough to build a safe rolling chassis, much less the systems inside it. No car at that price point would be acceptable. Here BYD and other Chinese manufacturers are already selling cars, but only on the large/luxury end. Friction brakes are 100% necessary. Regen...

Very small laptop. Dell's nice horrorshow

Nope, that was a few laptops ago. Currently I have a Dell XPS 16 with an Ultra 9 and a 4070. Mainly picked it for the 4k OLED screen. With the current trend of letting everything live on the verge of thermal throttling all the time, the CPU and GPU spec really doesn't mean much. Of course it...

There are now plenty of options. For years there was only one good option, and the whole time all the automakers and most of the analysts were saying Tesla would fail. I think that is really dependant on the task. Most desktop users are not multitasking that much, and the programs they use are likely to get full utilization of one core, maybe 30% on a couple more, and that is it. With all the cores stuffed into CPUs these days, I would expect something like...

I feel like I've been flirting with it for decades. Mild pain most of the time, and when it gets bad I take a break from the computer and/or focus on strength/dexterity exercises. No idea if that is an optimal strategy or not, but so far I feel like I've dodged a bullet.
