As others said, don't try to open the sealed platter enclosure, if its not spinning up then either the motor is dead (tough luck) or the circuitry. The latter can be replaced easily enough. If you swap circuit boards, AFAIK as long as the model is correct, the capacity needn't be the same as...

My housemate has the TUV4X, it never created any problems as far as I know of. It would certainly be better, as advised by others also, to spend the extra $5 for the Radeon card.

True, its one of my favourites. The demo only has a coupe of maps, all new ones, I'm not sure the full version actually carries over any of the old maps... and the maps included on the demo aren't very nice IMO...
