If its the coolers fault you might want to get yourself a Zalman flower heatsink. On my XP1800+ at 1600MHz the temperature reads around 60C full load but thats with an Asus mobo - all other mobos will show 50C. Stable and quiet!

The fanmate can be made for about $1 US - all it takes is a visit to your local electronics shop and 5 components later you're done. I don't have a fanmate at hand but when I had taken apart mine some time ago it only comprised of about 4 or 5 parts, I thought what a waste of money it was...

Isn't this the difference between a good 5400 and a good 7200rpm drive? Sure, a 5400rpm doesn't neccesarily improve productivity, I'm sure we all could live with 5.4k but its damn annoying, and reduces the percieved snappyness of the system

theoretically it does - no frequency of digital sampling (short of infinite) is sufficient to capture the exact waveform of an analog sound. Thats why its supposed to be better. Obviously there are are disadvantages to analog media which have to be balanced against the advantages.
