    GPU folding is here!

Thanks Coug, no worries, that's just what my 5960k is producing. Just installed the 480s an hour or so ago, went into FAHControl and added an additional GPU slot and she seems to be cranking. I went with my mobo manual recommendation to use the top two pci-e slots for 16x on both, however this...

    4k TVs and Monitors

I've switched from a 24" Dell running 1920*1200 to a 40" 4k Vizio TV, the biggest issue I have is that when I get close to the screen I get barrel distortion from my glasses. I can certainly see a future where I have three of these (prob sitting on folding tables).

    GPU folding is here!

Looks like undervolting to 1.05v for power states 6 and 7 using Wattman actually improves performance by allowing it to remain at boost clock for longer, in addition to reducing load on the PCI-E slots. There's also something you can run in Afterburner to swing the draw over to the 6 pin power...

Ordered from Newegg, they should be here on Wed. They decided to do their annual inventory count on the day of release so had to wait till this week....refunded the 2 day shipping I paid for.

    GPU folding is here!

Yup, on Windows. Not sure what the pricing is in Canada, but here it's a choice between spending $250 and spending around $430. Wait a couple of weeks, see how the custom cooled 480 cards overclock, and then decide. The 480 seems to perform closer to a 980 in the DX12 game benchmarks.

    Top-end System Build

So went with a Founders Edition? Which manufacturer? Will you be installing an EK waterblock when available? The seahawk EK would have been the way to go but rare as hens teeth, the normal seahawk with corsair aio cooling should be out soon as well.

Interesting. I have a vented attic (for the snow) with R-49 on the attic floor, so I don't think panel shading would help me much.

Yes, that's why I'm thinking of a ground mount tracker because the sun is low on the horizon during winter months. Looks like SolarCity panels are at around 22% efficiency and they manufacture them close by in Buffalo. Some of my high load demand is covered by propane (forced air heat, hot...

Intel Announces New Prime95 Suckage in Skylake

My understanding is that you need to be careful of what version of Prime95 you are running. Newer versions will push AVX instructions in the fpu in a way that really diverges from actual real world scenarios. IIRC version 27 or something like that is best to avoid AVX. If you are using an AVX...

It doesn't help that consumers have the "4k remastered" Blu-rays sitting on store shelves as well to really mess with their minds. At least they were actually feeding it blu-ray and not some horribly compressed 1080i shit from a cable box.......

Your plasma may well have better motion resolution than that 4k TV (assuming LCD). Given UHD Blu-ray is not yet availabke I assume it was some low bitrate 4k stream. To better plasma motion res you need to go into either OLED, LCOS or DLP display tech to potentially better it.

Microsoft Moving to Per-Core Licencing for Server 2016

MS SQL has already gone to per core licensing (you buy "2 core" packs up to what the server core count is). Definitely can get more expensive if you have a lot of cores. This seems to be a way to extract more cash from those running things like multiple 14 core Xeons etc.
