Whatever happened to A vs A?

The other os thing sucks, but it was a vector to eventual compromise of the ps3. I want devlopers to continue to produce beautiful ganes on the ps3, zero piracy helps in this regard.

SSDs - State of the Product?

I think we will see more of the Marvell controller in forthcoming products. In my view a good thing to get these things fleshed out in mass market quantities.

SSDs - State of the Product?

My speculation is that we won't see much of the SF-1500 outside enterprise devices, or that limited edition run of Vertex drives. A way to package MLC and get years of enterprise life out of it. They have the SF-1200 for "Consumer" apps, but I don't think that's going to cut the mustard for...

SSDs - State of the Product?

Their SF-1500 controller can do some very interesting things in terms of on the fly data compression etc, it appears to switch between different methods depending on workload. From what I understand it's expense generally will relegate it to enterprise roles but it seems to have no peer...

As long as the monitors can be driven at a true 120Hz, should be OK. The question is, to get 60Hz 3D effects in full say 1080p, you need to be delivering 120 frames at that rez. Of course with Eyefinity 6 that rez is much higher. Even a 5970 can't do that kind of performance on a single card. 3...

Of course the number of people who drive at 65 MPH on the Thruway are very limited. I do it myself after years of indoctrination by Australian speed cameras hidden behind every bush. 80 would prob be a more likely speed at that time of night.

In normal dry conditions a 2 second gap is prudent. However that is when following a vehicle that is properly illuminated at night. In this case, the dump box of the truck was sitting across the roadway. No lights, likely no reflective panels to even indicate something was there until it was...

    940: how to use it....

Greg, I don't think DOS based games are really going to be pushing your GTX295. I would recommend downloading Steam (it's a free account) and grabbing a demo of Just Cause 2 or something like that.

    Small Version of Enterprise Storage?

Yes NTFS would be almost mandatory ("Dynamic" NTFS disks being necessary if you were using Windows soft RAID). I would recommend RAID 5 (you would need a Server flavour of Windows for it). Each FC drive should present it's unique WWN.

No. You need to verify that the backplane presents the drives in a manner that would allow JBOD. It could indeed be that the backplanes must be connected to an EVA controller. Small Version of Enterprise Storage?

Generally one would have multiple controllers for a failover situation, i.e. redundancy. It's unlikely that any one host would overwhelm a single port. Are the Hitachi drives pulled out of an existing system? IME many of these backplanes require specific drives and/or firmware to try and lock...
