There's a Home and Student Edition with 3 installs that is the cheapest. But beware, there's an edition of this in some countries that allows only one install. This includes Woird, Excel & PwrPnt. There's a Home & Business edition that adds Outlook, that is more expensive, but is restricted to...

    Recommend a Laptop / Notebook (v. $800 / 14" 16:10 screen)

DD: I have this one, and it's quite fast. It's FW-800, but comes with two cables that enable use with either a FW-800 port or FW-400 port on the host. Since the reader draws power from the FW port, the host port needs to be 6-connector ('alpha'). Or you'll have to use a FW hub that provides...

What problems does the E71 have, Chewy? I've been using one since December 2008 and it's by far the best phone I've ever had. There's 3 issues I don't like: 1) The small screen 2) No HTML email, only text 3) When is syncs email, it'll kill a call if you're on one I'll change it only because of...

The display is one of the biggest battery hogs. One minute is too long on battery; try 30 secs. I have mine set to 10 secs on my Nokia E71 (Symbian) phone. I get multiple days of use on one charge.

Sorry, long post! Admittedly, my OS install is long in the tooth; installed almost exactly 4 years ago. I am dreading reinstallation of all the sw, the utilities, the tweaks, etc. But while the system is generally ok, disk throughput seems poor. I had 2 Hibachi 250 GB SATA drives in the...

Reliable FW 800 Card, PCI or PCIe

I bought Unibrain's FireBoard800-e™ V.2 1394b OHCI PCI-Express adapter for $69. I tested with a 2GB OS image file. Copying from a Samsung 320GB SATA drive to the external, I get 67.5 MB/s. Copying back from the external to the second Samsung 320GB SATA drive gives me 62.1 MB/s. There have...

Depends. Consumer electronics are very expensive. The iPhone 3GS 32GB is about $900 :) Amazingly, prices on some computer stuff are decent; I bought a Hibachi 1TB drive for the equivalent of ~$100 a couple of months ago - not a multiple of the U.S. price! You get the best prices in the U.S...

There are a couple of CDMA providers who also now offer GSM. Easily, more than the lion's share is GSM. Prices in the U.S. are tempting. TMobile is offering the HD2 without a contract for $449; cheap compared to the $750 it costs to buy here.

There are 5 in the case, but I've diusconnected one as not necessary. The previous batch (which had no failures but I replaced anyway) ran from early 2000 till mid 2006.

Some distributors will do the logistics work for high-volume retailers. That's how Buy.com got started; never held any stock. The items ordered on buy.com were shipped directly from Merisel or another distributor direct to the buyer. This eliminates one layer/transaction.
