    Recommendations forum?

I had a vision once ... but it never worked out they way I would have wanted it to have. But that's okay - I don't have much use these days for the toolbox section anyways as [list]its Windows centric. This is, of course, simply a reflection of our user base, and not a criticism. I, however...

    HTPC Build...recomendations?

A function of the factors I mentioned above. For capturing digital transmissions, CPU power really isn't a factor - a generalized ballpark response: you'll see around 5-10%. CPU utilization for capturing analog is dictated by the compression format you have selected, and the resolution at which...

CoreAVC decoder brings 1080p to the masses

Up until just recently, the fastest H.264/AVC decoder was Ateme's. Enter CoreAVC which, from what I've seen, is ~60% faster. What this means is that fairly pedestrian hardware can now playback even AVC 1080p files. It appears that Core's media player (TCMP) and AVC plugin produces the best...

    HTPC Build...recomendations?

I'm skeptical of Sivlerstone's PSU's too time. Re: a s754 6100 solution - perhaps the DFI will be the first. I don't know. Wasn't looking.

    HTPC Build...recomendations?

That actually reminds me of something. Will start a new post. Irregardless of that, what about scaling? What about image processing?
  9. C

    HTPC Build...recomendations?

I disagree. For playback, an ideal CPU choice depends upon several considerations, such as: method of rendering whether you're doing any scaling whether you're performing any colourspace conversions whether you're performing any postprocessing format and resolutions you're decoding the amount...

Those based on the nVidia 61xx chipsets (same applies to my MSI comment too). The following two links show the s754 6100 solution plus an ATI based board. I'm pretty sure I saw a s939 6150 solution too but don't remember where...would be pretty silly of them not to release one...

I don't have any use for them either. Perhaps when they hit 3-4MP capability, then I might have a use for them to grab the occassional snapshot that is worth keeping. I've read that Japan is, but don't know if that's true I remember a year or so ago, being on a bus and a group of young girls...

    HTPC Build...recomendations?

The other thing to mention is that the MSI board might be more suited for you (I take it this is personal, as I see no tv card, and you mentioned previously you only stream videos with your htpc). Also, you might want to hold off a week or two until DFI's board shows up.

    HTPC Build...recomendations?

Make sure you get the new PSU model or else you can kiss booting your board goodbye. See me There are lots of complaints about that board currently. Such as found in: - here - here and some others - here if Linux interests you

Paul Martin dissapointed me. When he and JC had that big fall out a number of years back, and it was clear Martin was going to become the next leader of the Liberals, it seemed like he was actually going to be a pretty good leader. Although JC screwed him by sticking to his word of not...

There was an article not too long ago in one of the papers about polar bears starting drown. I didn't read it, but scanning it, I gather the gist of it was: rising global temps = less polar ice = a lot further for bears to swim = some dead bears

To provide some perspective on how big that shared of territory called the NWT still is: take Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, & Wyoming and combine them in to one. Now find some miscellanous ~50,00KM^2 tract of land to fill in the rest of the space occupied by the NWT. Or, for those...

    150GB Raptor announced

On a more serious note: what about considerations for cable length. IIRC, the current internal SATA is supposed to be spec'ed for a metre. That's not going to leave much end to the rope on the outside of the case to play with.
