Video editing solution? Burning to DVD?

Doug, there is at least five tvtuner/capture cards out already: - sapphire - msi - ati ($$) - powercolor - visiontek I know newegg carries some of them.

    DVD+R DL

Eric, your results look in line with the performance of the drive: From Cdrlabs 3500 review: Writing - "The ND-3500A is one of the first drives to feature 4x DVD+R DL writing speeds ... aside from the slight dip at the layer change, the drive writes at this speed from start to finish."...

    Update to 2.0.15

Curiously, I'm now finding that the initial delay "problem" before being served up SF has increased to probably a mean value of ~1.8s. And I thought that 1s delay was bad! You should see me now -- I'm like a crack junkie rehab centre escapee jones'n for a fix. :P

    Buying 17" LCD monitors

At low resolution, I find the difference between VGA and DVI to be noticeable but only in a very subtle way. Specifically, I find that if you use DVI for an extended period of time and then switch back to a VGA connection, you'll find yourself wondering what happened to the crisp text and...

Creative Marketing apparently staffed by alchemists

Defying conventional wisdom, Creative has managed to turn garbage into gold. I asked a garbage truck driver about this and he replied: "If ya put crap in the can, you only get trash oudda de can". I'm inclined to believe the garbage-man.

    Delayed Write Failed

Windows is corrupted :P As a complete guess, I'm thinking its a scsi drive your using and its a controller driver related issue. If not, then so much for more fledgling career as a clairvoyant. Questions: - what kind of drive? - what controller? - what firmware and drivers ? - anything...

    Update to 2.0.14

Since the upgrade, I've noticed that there is a slight (~1s or so) delay before SF will load for me. No other site experiences this delay. If I were to guess, I would suspect its a resolving of the DNS related issue. Anyone else notice this? Thankfully this isn't like last year's...

True, but what I meant to imply was that: absence from the F/S's doesn't necessarily mean the litigation was resolved. My former statement implied somewhat of the opposite.

Does anyone actually use roaming profiles?

Well timed, time, as roaming profiles made news elsewhere recently. I didn't read the article, but I skimmed through the comments. In typical OSNews fashsion, the know-it-alls, trolls and insulters are quickly fleshed out of the ether.

Ars has a huge review (which is too long for me to read thoroughly right now so I just skimmed through it) of Apple's latest rendition of OS X. Tiger looks really good. One quote from the article that made me laugh:

Well, I think you've talked me into staying the execution. I don't know if I'll personally be able to reform the prisnor, but barring my failure, I'll get the extradition papers together. Right now inmate 500CDT will remain in cell block G.

Adobe Acrobat Reader v6 phone home

I've noticed on the rare occasion that some PDF's trigger acrobat to phone home for updates -- I'm guessing its because of foreign fonts or something. That bugs me enough that it automatically attempts to phone home. But what pisses me off more is that it starts trying to contact a whole...

Why can't I get the floppy drive to work?

For sure its 80pin SCSI. Even more evidence comes from the writing on the connector cable that I noted: My friend Google says its SCSI cable. :D However, my old nemesis Acrobat wants to phone to all kinds of motherships when I open any of those PDFs

Why can't I get the floppy drive to work?

You know I thought that both of them were plain PC Card slots! I didn't even spot the stuff about SCSI that you found. I'm positive I can find one. The cheapest one I found was something like $25US from somewhere deep in the heart of the Jersey swamplands. Nothing reasonably priced locally...

Why can't I get the floppy drive to work?

Boot disks I have handy! But a laptop that works I have not. The batteries are long drained, and I ensured it wouldn't be working again when I took it apart 2 years ago -- I mangled part of the PSU. Actually, a little bit of soldering would easily fix my mangling, but I detected what looked...

    800X600 LCD?

They do. But what I was getting at was - the CF-37's screen is obviously 800x600, but if your hooking up to an external monitor through the laptop's VGA out, can't the laptop's video card be set to work at a higher res for the external monitor? For that matter, can you turn the laptop's own...

Why can't I get the floppy drive to work?

Nope, none of that. Its on a Toshiba Tecra 500 (circa '95)... The machine came with an external floppy, no external power. It plugs into a small port on the left side of the laptop. The port/connector bears a strong resemblence to a parrallel or scsi type connection, albeit much smaller...

Word of warning to those considering the Bytecc ME-350U2

I was unaware that CrystalCPU was independent of C'n'Q. I had been under the impression that C'n'Q was actually a requirement for Crystal. I note that having unistalled the AMD driver AND disabling C'n'Q in the BIOS, Crystal continues to function perfectly. That last point makes me pause to...
