If we're talking about for use with film based material, it is my opinion that the Dscaler 5 decoder is tops of the class. BTW, if you're open to the suggestion of using another media player, Media Player Classic has built in decoders that are very good too...probably based on the libmpeg2...

You should, in theory, have no problems playing this back. WMV9/VC1 is not as taxing as AVC....however, it does seem to mysteriously present some challenges to some systems which should be way more then adequate...there has got to be some low level software conflict in its code going on, as...

I'm pretty sure mplayer is rendering every frame, however, just not at the intended 24 or 29.97 fps (or whatever the source was) ... hence why the audio is finishing well before the video is finished.

PS - I would like to see the 939 Semprons become available in retail ... apparently AMD has been shipping those to OEMs for a while now

Umm, no. AMD announced the new chips back in July. I put a 64 bit Sempron 2800 754 in a system I built for a friend back in early August, which was just a short while after they first became available in TO.

What codec (and bit rate) is used for this, no doubt, PG-13 rated wholesome entertainment :D

Tannin, just download one of Celtic_druid's recent builds of Mplayer for windows then (~3.5MB). Extract to a folder, drop to cmd line and then use the cmd: mplayer "path\filename.mov" Its a very nice vid and music.

Yes, all the time! MPC is a wonderful directshow media player. One of the most useful features is the fact that It has a very good dvd (MPEG2) decoder built into it (although I disable it an use the Dscaler5 decoder). It also has capturing functionality, but it has never worked for me...

The Aten CS-1762 looks pretty nice. The Gefen stuff looks good too. I note that their single link dvi appears to support the higher resolutions - 1920x1200.
