Word of warning to those considering the Bytecc ME-350U2

PS - to satisfy my own curiousity about whether there is a performance increase, I'm going to do an apples to apples comparison later on (i.e I'll take a boot image that loads the driver vs the same boot image with the exception that I'll rem out the driver loading line).

Word of warning to those considering the Bytecc ME-350U2

I took a look at this again last night. My previous night's difficulty with the udma driver was due purely to a clerical error which I was overlooking. I got the UDMA driver working fine but with just one exception. * Although I wasn't doing an apples to apples comparison (because I was using...

Can you copy DVD's from one reader to another?

DVD43Free too. I only used it once - Shaun of the Dead has "bad sectors" anti-ripping protection which a prior version of DVDDecryptor choked on. With DVD43Free in place, the older version of DVDDecryptor was able to rip away. I believe the newest version of DVDDecryptor can now circumvent...

Word of warning to those considering the Bytecc ME-350U2

For shame mubs - leaving me hanging like that. I got a hold of the enclosure last night. It employs a Cypress CY7C68300A chipset, which is indeed a "fixed function" IC (i.e non-programable...i.e firmware programers need not apply). However, there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with it...

Anyone tried the new DVD dual layers? Reports, comments?

Pre Purchase Many media manufacturers not only provide supply for the name brands, but also sell under their own label. For example, a quick check at NewEgg revealed that they do carry some spindle cakes of Taiyo Yuden discs. In terms of the name brands (like Fuji, Memorex, ...), if you can...

Word of warning to those considering the Bytecc ME-350U2

mubs, what kind of thoroughput are you seeing on the USB? By the sounds of it, my cousin is only seeing a horrid ~4-7MB/s. I won't get a chance to look into this until the weekend. However, it doesn't sound particularly promisiing -- I was reading a thread on CDFreaks about external...

Anyone tried the new DVD dual layers? Reports, comments?

Spec wise, I think the only difference is that the newer 3520 can do 8x RW (versus 4x on 3500) and can also handle -R DL (whereas the 3500 can only handle +R DL) .... I could be wrong though. Anyways, DL is dead in the water as far as I'm concerned...on the other hand, a quicker RW burn time...

Anyone tried the new DVD dual layers? Reports, comments?

No, they're essentially equivalent. If anything, casual observation (of CDfreak's NEC forum) leads me to believe that people might perfer the older 3500, but by the slimmest of margins (i.e would fall within statistical error...if anyone was doing such a study)....but I'm also a bit biased...

Word of warning to those considering the Bytecc ME-350U2

The unsuspecting customer would be wise to know that there are two models: the older one which is the ME350U2, but also refered to as the ME-350U2 (see the url). and the newer one which is ME-350....which they apparantly distinguish as the 355 (i.e see the url, ... also conveyed in Newegg's...
