I had an Intel SSD in that machine before, but the difference in CPU speed is still pretty noticeable. I think the new SSD is probably faster than my G2 80GB Intel SSD as well.

I just tried to smash an old HDD with a hammer, it was amazing resilient. The platters were definitely bent out of shape, but my neighbors were starting to wonder if I had a screw loose so I stopped.

This upgrade is a nice speed boost coming from a Q6600. I'm sure I'll notice a nice speedup when using an IDE.

The answer is that I'm stupid. I figured it out, and this post is from the system in question. It's beautiful that I don't need to change a single thing with my OS after booting it up with a new motherboard/CPU etc.

I got the Core i5 4670K. I am trying to install this motherboard in an Antec P180 case and can't figure out where to connect the power or reset switches. Am I stupid or do I need a new case/power supply? This is the power supply.

I had already ordered this one. I didn't know their selection was that good. When I checked their website on Sunday or Monday there was only one board available. Hopefully, I didn't screw up.

I used to run the stairs at lunch in the NBC Tower when I worked in that building. I would generally do 100 flights in sets of 10. I'm in Two Prudential Plaza now and the doors lock once you go into the stairwell. Plus, I don't think they want people in there from what I hear.

I picked up the CPU from Micro Center today. I also bought a Samsung 840 Pro 128GB drive for $120 after coupon. I will probably get around to building it tomorrow. Watched the Penguins embarrass themselves while drinking Highland Park instead.

    Mariadb installation woes

It should not matter where you install the software, just where it stores it's data files. If you actually get it to install, you should be able to configure the place it stores the files.

Just use MySQL if it's available in your repo. I would wait to install MariaDB until the distro maintainer replaces MySQL with it.

    Fantasy Series

I've been reading quite a few fantasy series lately. I figured someone might be interested. Here's what I've read recently and few brief thoughts: The First Law Trilogy - This is the best trilogy I've read in a while. Great characters and an interesting plot, very hard to put down. I also read...

Just a little background on the building. This is a 100+ year old 3 story brick building with all plaster walls. Running any kind of cabling is going to cost a significant amount of money. I posted this before doing any research or even looking for outlets. I just looked at Amazon and found that...
