    Police Pursuit

Unless you believe the rich should not be punished or deterred, why doesn't it make sense? It just pulls traffic offences more into line with other parts of the legal system. In any case, it's based on income, not disposable income, so it still has less effect on a wealthy person.

    Police Pursuit

I think this is a category that deserves its own thread. To kick it off, here's a wonderful story about a mechanic in a customer's Lamborghini. The police confiscated the Lambo a couple of months back when they reckoned he was doing 160km/h (100mph) in a 90km/h (55mph) zone.

    Affordable graphics cards

I don't understand why this is an issue. Do you have monitors without DVI connectors? If so, surely you have tons of spare adapters? Last time I looked, they were only a couple of bucks each.

    Fanless power supply.

Some motherboards are too quick to vary fan speed as the temperature changes. The human ear can far more readily detect small changes in pitch than the presence or absence of noise. I used to think - like quite a few people apparently - that the power supply must be weak. :)

It's worth spending 15 minutes reading about the Hydrogen Economy: Free hydrogen does not occur naturally in quantity, and thus it must be generated from some other energy source ... Hydrogen is therefore an energy carrier (like electricity), not a primary energy source (like coal). In other...

    When to Build New System

Hmmm, I'm not sure 300W could be called "low power". The 80+ guidelines apparently include 20% and 50% loading, so performing well at 25% isn't at all surprising. The percentage efficiency is a somewhat misleading way of expressing the issue - Wastage or Heat Dissipation focuses the mind more...

    When to Build New System

The bundled 'thermostatic' fans were indeed pretty crappy. I prolonged their otherwise limited life (and reduced the noise very considerably) by adding a $5 fan speed controller. The main problem with those cases is the flap covering the front USB, 1394 and audio ports. People invariably kick...

Installer size doesn't mean much. We covered PDF readers in this thread. Foxit used way less memory than the 4 or 5 others I tried, most of which couldn't even render a two-page view, etc, etc. I agree the browser toolbars are annoying, but it's not too difficult to turn them off during the...

    LCD Woes

According to Lunar, both the "Sapphos" X1600 and the MSI 3650 didn't work properly. Presumably, the Asus 4350 did, as did his new HIS 5450. What's the third card that works just fine? :-?
