    Iraqi crisis explained...

all it takes is a couple of photos and articles, presented by your own biased media, and your totally convinced. fair enough, it works for you. me on the other hand; I'll wait to see what those nations, that have managed to stay completely outside of this, have to report before I'm comfortable...

    Unlocking Tbreds

athlon owners here may want to check their CPU on http://mp3.zonebg.com/cpu/cpu.php. this is a good read too: http://lowyat.isentral.com/guides/athlonxp. looks like time has one of these magic 1700+'s.

    Unlocking Tbreds

time, I just bought two OCZ400512B 512MB DDR400 2T DIMMS for AU$320 through Yen Industries (www.yenindustries.com) I got them cheaper than advertised by quoting TWEAKERS-003 and telling him I was a Tweakers.com.au forum member. I've had these DIMMS run at 2-3-3 @ 208MHz in dual channel mode...

    Grisoft AntiVirus

yes. I've been using the free version it for about 8 months now and have found it works great. I've installed it on all my family and friends PC's and none have had a virus problem since. it's saved me a lot of time :D virus definitions are updated regularly at about 2-3 times a week, sometimes...

    2 x 512MB Elixir DDR333

2 x 512MB Elixir PC2700 DDR DIMMS - I've had this RAM to 180MHz in dual channel mode (nForce2), using SPD timings. didn't try overclocking a singular DIMM. I doubt it will do CAS2 at 180MHz but then again it's not XMS 2700 is it :p. having said that the nForce2 chipset is notoriously...

max voltage for 'b' Thoroughbred Athlon

I managed to get my 1800+ to 2083MHz (2600+) @ 1.825V. temp under full appears to be 49C, even on a very hot day,. I can’t see it getting much over 60C, if at all. considering that a 1800+ is less than 30% the price of a 2600+, I'm quite pleased
  13. J

So, who's getting a WD Raptor?

    I know I am, it's the when that I don't know.

max voltage for 'b' Thoroughbred Athlon

OK thanks. I'll give it a go soon. looks like I'll be fine since I won't be going over 1.85v or 60C under load, which ever comes 1st.
  15. J

max voltage for 'b' Thoroughbred Athlon

I want to start seeing just how far I can push my current 1800+ 'b' Athlon. currently I have it running @ 2071MHz (166MHz FSB x 12.5) on 1.725v max temp is 46C. I'm going to start raising the FSB next and presumably as I do so I'll need to up the voltage on the CPU. with regards to voltage; is...

whilst honold is having a good time with his new car, I'm having considerable grief with my car. Best bargain board

I agree the AK32A is a bargain to be had. AU$90 here in Oz (currently US$54) as for new-beaut mobo's, the Soltek Sl-75FRN-L is terrific value imho. with an nForce2 chipset w/dual channel memory of course, USB2, LAN & onboard sound, it can be had for AU$165 here in Oz (currently US$98)

HD price, performance, price survey - Fantasy

it is for me since I don't have a mass amount of large files to back up. 5 DVD's holds all I want saved. I do one a DVD backup a week and just rotate through the backup set.

HD price, performance, price survey - Fantasy

my concern for reliabilty has lessened now that I have a DVD burner to do large backups on. perhaps others have, since the IBM 75GXP scare, implemented better and/or more regular back-up schemes as well.

    Iraqi crisis explained...

in regards to the 1st night of the "shock & awe" I heard by a senior NBC reporter earlier today say: aren't the 'coalition' forces supposed to be there to liberate the Iraqi people from Hussein regime? no, it's about oil ... yet few from the US seem to believe that so that makes it not true I...

    Iraqi crisis explained...

James, I've seen a few polls with close to 50-50% support for the war now in progress.
  31. J

    Iraqi crisis explained...

those polls have only just started to show a roughly 50-50 results. the reason they have changed is because when it became clear that Howard was going to blindlingy follow Bush into war, people are moving into the mindset that supporting the war will end it sooner. personally I'm ashamed of all...

I recently had a hard 'fang' in a worked Nissan R32 GT-R. I'm normally not a fan of Mustangs either however on my last trip to the US ('99 I think), I had to commute between LA and San Diego quite a few times so my work gave me a then current model 5.0 topless Mustang to make the trips a it a little more fun. I made the effort to oblige them and...

Ever wanted to know the thoughts of car fans?

well constructed Cliwell sorry Howtin er... :) Handruin, feathering takes time and is not conducive to racing! in fact proper competition transmissions have straight-cut gears and no syncros allowing for fast, almost clutchless changes. of course a a competition g'box doesn't have to deal with...

Ever wanted to know the thoughts of car fans?

all terms are in relatioln to manual transmissions. feathering is simply being steady and gently progressive with clutch engagement and release. too much feathering is known as "riding the clutch". double-clutching is in reference to down-shifting. the idea is to raise engine speed (rpm)...

  44. J

Ever wanted to know the thoughts of car fans?

you're talking about double-clutching and for your average g'box, car it really isn't necessary. if you need to feather the clutch in a lot, then perhaps you're shifting too early.

Ever wanted to know the thoughts of car fans?

well, can I say "sort of" my canine buddy? the improvements you felt in the 1>2 gear is due to a load reduction on the diff end of the g/box. as you know, your engine and g/box are locked in alignment. with the stock stock engine mounts, your engine and hence your g'box, would twist a certain...
  48. J

Ever wanted to know the thoughts of car fans?

huh? transmissions or gearboxes are always held exactly inline with the engine by way of the bellhousing. flexible engine mounts are used to allow an engine some movement without putting too much stress on what would be otherwise solid mounts which in turn would inrtoduce vibration and noise.
