The highest capacity cells can be problematic. I prefer to specify a somewhat lower capacity cell with greater longevity under high discharge, high charge, high heat and high shock/vibration conditions. They are sometimes described as commercial/industrial/heavy duty, etc. Most manufacturers...

    Really Fast Drive! or ?

Both the current Ghost (aka Drive Image) and Acronis should work, but I have not tried them specifically with CF cards. Restoration still requires booting from a CD or similar. You might prefer to image directly to a DVD writer.

    New Battery or UPS?

I also prefer replacing the batteries. Batteries Plu is popular in the area, and they take the old batteries for proper disposal.

What anti-spyware anti-adware combos do you use nowadays?

I use a 3-year old installation of Win2K with IE 5.5, but still there is no spyware. :( What exactly causes the spyware, downloading porno, mp3 files, spam e-mails, visiting criminal websiotes?

    Really Fast Drive! or ?

The PCI slot is used only to supply power and as a physical location. The interface is SATA.

    Really Fast Drive! or ?

http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,121105,00.asp Since my OS/apps would fit in 4GB, I could really use the disk space gained by removing ye olde 15K.3. Iss this device for real, or will there be problems with DOS utilities etc.?

GM Employee Discount for Everyone until July 5th

I usually must rent GM cars when traveling for business. Although they are getting better over the years, GM is still not a brand that I would purchase, special deal or no. Everybody does not need to drive like a maniac. I would prefer less effort spent on the HP wars and more emphasis on...

    Auckland, New Zealand

The long triop is a personal one, if I even make it. The problem these days is that smaller and smaller planes are being used to reduce operating costs. Remeber when 747s were used from coast to coast and L1011s or DC-10s were used for the short 12200 mile flights? Flying for 1.5 hours in the...

I just retunred from overseas a couple of days ago. Then there are trips in June and July in the US and a long one in August (three continents in two days). And there will probably be a few unplanned travels as well. :(

Wow, you are lucky to fly so infrequently! I fly a little more than average, maybe 10-12 trips/30-40K miles per year, and it not fun most of the time. LAX to Auckland can be rough, right up there with DC or JFK to Narita or my least favorite, JFK to Joburg.

REVIEW: "High Capacity Hard Drive Roundup"

Greg, Have you shopped recently? ATA drives are under $0.50 per GB, often much less with a rebate. The major manufacturers have returned to 3-year warranties and Seagate has a 5-year warranty. A 300GB 10K SCSI drive is about 5x as costly as an ATA drive. Even if one could get by with only...

OLN killed cycling Sunday in Canada. Bloody bastards...

I have never even ridden a bicyle, but agree that TV coverage is inconsistent to say the least. In the US there seems to be more and more of the American footbal and the NASCAR auto racing, which consists of nothing but white guys driving cars in a small circle for hours and hours.
