    Tiny Power Supply

Where can I find a really tiny 100-240VAC adapter to 16-18VDC @ 500mA? It must be a switching adapter to be small and lightweight. All I can find are bulky wall warts or some notebook inline bricks, but even the smallest ones are usually 3A, making them larger and heavier than necessary...

NEWZ: Samsung's Big Plans For Flash-Based Hard Drives

That is exactly how I feel. Yet my one small drive, a 36GB 15K.3, is only partitioned as a 9.5 GB drive. The rest is truly free. ;)

The OS is Win2K, and it was patched not too long after obtaining the 160GB D540X - maybe late 2001 or early 2002.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I only planned to use WIPE on the first part of the drive. Of course the entire drive could be wiped in Windows if I thought it would run that long. ;)

    System Stuffed!

I am jut so tired of of time and money spent of computers; they make me sick. :( I could not take it anymore so I went to the CompUSA and stood in line with the masses and bought a 300GB ATA-133 drive. The 300GB SATA was $50 more for some reason and I really have no use for the (relatively)...

Well f*ck me, it is happening again. :( Now it is clear that the drive is spinning down and then spinning up again. I tried another powder connector, but they are SATA and seem to fit OK. The drive is warm, but too hot, so I don't knwo waht else do to but to replace it. This timing is the...

    A little bit chilly

At 100°F in the evening it's still hot as hell here, but it was worse a few hours ago. Indoor temps reached 78°F, so I know it was a hot one.

    WD increases HD warranty periods

Yes, of course. In that context I was eferring to the noise, no the waranty. Anywho, the WD was only an 80GB USB2 drive ($90) and the user is happy with it. I have little interest in a WD as a prinary drive unless it is at leats 500GB. I would buy a small (NLT 300GB) drivef for backups if it...

    WD increases HD warranty periods

    First and last ASUS MB

I must be licky; my P4C800E-Deluxe from November 2003 is still working perfectly fine. I started with only 4x512 MB Crucial RAM of some sort then upgraded to 4x1GB PC3200 CrossAir in March 2004. I am not planning to upgrade that soon, so I hope it lasts another 4-6 months.

Sorry about that, man. :( Oddly enough, I always regretted not getting my EE degrees and heading towards design and engineering, but ended up in R&D in a different scientific arena. I guess with manufacturing and design of so many products sent offshoresd, it is not good for positions in the...

    DVD+R DL

Nero supports multiple drives, so why not just make two copies from the source files? It seems to me that a backup would be slow and more time consuming, both reading and writing.
  27. L

    DVD+R DL

The write test was done first of course. Neither the write test nor read test would be affected in this case, since the files were written by Nero to fill up the disc.

    DVD+R DL

Yeah, the bust speed is 27MB/sec. Is this just due to the old NEC 3500A or do the newer ones read faster? The 8x DVD±RW (DL) in my notebooko is about the same speed too, ~3.4 x avergae read.
  32. L

    DVD+R DL

Well, this DVD+R DL totally f***ing sucks as far as I am concerned. It is too costly and nobody wants to wait 30 minutes to download a single disc.
  33. L

    DVD+R DL

I finally obtained some DVD+R DL discs and burned them in the old NEC 35000A. The writing speed is 4x throughout, but the read speed is terrible. Are all DL discs slow to read? I though that read speeds were always equal to or faster than writing speeds. Is this a faulty generalization, or...

    New Battery or UPS?

Yikes! I meant that the Li Ion battery is stored in a refrigerator.
  48. L

    New Battery or UPS?

Li Ion cells should not be overcharged. Many devices such as notebooks do not let the cells charge until they have discharged to 90 or 95% for this reason. The charge cycle is basically constant current and then voltage limited, shutting down when the current drops. Unused Li Ion battery...
