It's a family obligation. My brother would rather inconvenience me than sit on a bus, train or cab with the poors. Fortunately, he hasn't done that to me in a while. Midway isn't terrible to navigate and actually that neighborhood along Cicero and Cermak has a lot of great restaurants but it's...

Every time I have to pick someone up from ORD, it's a four or five hour ordeal on my part. I love the South Bend International airport. Yes, it's international. It gets flights from Canada. It can land a big boy plane. It's also free to park in the lot and the terminal is across a two-lane road...

    question Which Tablets

Rooted Android is still a bit odd since most software is written with the assumption that you can't manage the system yourself, but you can certainly find applications that do enable those capabilities. At the moment, there's no way to change the Windows on-screen keyboard to something else...

    question Which Tablets

Surface (not-Pro) tablets are 12" and have decent-ish Atom CPUs. They run around 10 hours before they have to be plugged in, which will get you through a working day. Windows as a mobile OS has some issues, mostly because typing is a hassle, though Microsoft just bought Swype, which should...

    question Which Tablets

I think what I'd really like to see is a Shield Tablet with a Tegra X1 SoC. Supposedly there's one in the works, including indicators that working versions have been demonstrated and benchmarked, but nothing to indicate when if ever such a device might actually ship. The Shield Tablet K1 is...

The one time I was on a plane, I found the experience inconvenient. It's like being on a bus or train, only with worse air, nasty germs and uncontrolled children. When I travel, even to someplace familiar, I tend to sleep very little. The longer the trip, the less pleasant the experience...

    Exchange Database Woes (Again)

I'm not aware of an Office 365 plan with a single mailbox capacity limit of more than 50GB. Coug's users say they're too busy to deal with mailbox management as it is. Even if that works OK for the time being, how long would it be before one of his users hit that particular brick wall?

    Best movie you've seen

I didn't like Daredevil Season 2 as much as the first season. I think the writing for the Punisher was pretty flat and there was a missing human element from not having the Ben Ullrich character around. There also aren't many ties to the other Marvel Cinematic properties and there's no clear big...

One computer can't ping another, but the problem is one-way

Windows 8+ can sometimes have weirdness related to defaulting a network connection to Public if it thinks for some reason that it's been connected to a new network and/or if an OS upgrade has been applied. Some of my classroom desktops have two LAN ports so even connecting an ethernet cable to...

I'm from central Illinois and I went to middle school in Urbana. Most of my immediate family lives in or around that area. Urbana has an art house theater and Roger Ebert's "home theater" at the Virginia - an honest-to-god movie palace, complete with granitework and a pipe organ and a huge film...

That's hilarious. When I was in college, my dorm room had campus phone number 3456 for three years, so I got a TON of random calls like that. It was actually pretty common for guys to not believe me. It was all the more reason to just leave the modem connected all the time as far as I was...

A derby pie is kind of a chocolate chip cookie with a pecan-bourbon filling. There's technically a pie crust involved but let's be honest and say that's just there for decoration.

I suggest Derby Pies if we're talking about weird regional dishes with "pie" in the name that are more or less cookies. But anything that's not filled with marshmallow and coated with some kind of sweet plastic-like substance would be an improvement.

There are actually fancier Rii (or similar generic) MCE remotes with alphanumeric keyboards on them but I've tried a bunch of them and generally don't like any of the above. I've gotten things like this and while I don't think they're great as remotes, they might be what you're looking for.

If your phone doesn't already have a sensor to tell it when to use the lock screen, you can use Llama or something to establish when it should be running. Or just run your control off a tablet that probably seldom leaves your house anyway.

And yet I have still provided the correct answer. In a less flippant form, you really want an 802.11 interactive remove because bluetooth and IR suck at least some of the time and may not be compatible with the device you wish to use. I can operate Kodi on the TV in my living room while I'm...

Music Pump for Android. It works with Kodi's builtin web server and can also be used to share/cast media from a device to Kodi as a DLNA server, so there's no question of controller range or interface compatibility. It just works with all the Kodi systems you might have.

I've been messing with nightly builds of Kodi v17 lately. They've completely reorganized it and made it more difficult to get third party addons installed or found once they are installed. AMD won't release Zen CPU before Q4 2016 (too late)

Yeah, the smiley key. Lower right corner, occupying room that could otherwise be used by more space bar or a carriage return key. I also installed Kik and Whatsapp and it shows up in those as well, but not in Email software, Web browsers or note-taking apps. Like there's some kind of Android...
