SSDs - State of the Product?

You're in the vanishing market segment that might legitimately benefit from a hybrid drive right now. Personally I didn't think a Momentus XL did much besides make startup and resume faster but I guess that's still better than a kick in the teeth. Do remember that some notebooks offer the...

    New phone time

I visited a mall today to buy fancy and stupidly-expensive tea for a ladyfriend. Just outside the tea shop was a Sprint kiosk, so I spent a few minutes drooling over the X One. When I brought up the S3, the Sprint guys were forced to admit that they didn't have one, but the bored looking...

SSDs - State of the Product?

I've been saying that for about a week. There was a huge drop about a month ago. Maybe 25%? This is a very good time if you're a builder, because consumers haven't caught up with the change yet; my $425-including-the-Windows-license machines sold for $700 apiece and the people who got them...

    question Good SATA card?

I've been advocating IBM M1015s. Same deal, a $50 LSI rebadge that supports SAS or SATA, expanders and drives larger than 3TB. There's a 30 second process for flashing the firmware to allow individual drive access if that's something you need. They don't seem to be as well known as the PERC...

SSDs - State of the Product?

Windows 7 once told me that a machine with a Vertex 3 on a 6Gpbs SATA port only scored a 5.9 on the experience index. I re-ran the tests a couple times and on the third run it jumped up to 7.8. I really don't think the Experience Index measures anything meaningful.

    low-end laser printers these days?

I don't like the precedent, really. But it's not like I print all that much, either. A ($45) 1500 sheet cartridge will probably last me a few years. At which time it will probably be cheaper to buy yet another printer. In contrast, HP wants $80 for a new, 2500 sheet black toner cartridge.

I'm really liking the sudden, amazing price drops on 120GB SSDs.
