In the switch you linked to, no RJ45 ports are 10G.

Fiber is also a little more future proofed, being limited more by the optics than the fiber itself. Much more difficult to retrofit a house with though.

You don't need any routing protocols (eg OSPF) unless you need this device to communicate routing tables to another router. Basically, if you have a second wan connection or multiple internal networks, and a second router it might be worth moving beyond static routes.

Try turning off the proxy on the laptop. At least you should be able to deconfigure it in the browser. When you are on the wireless can you ping the proxy server you are configured to use.
