You have already tried the only way to reduce the size after installation. The only other supported way is to reinstall the OS with current updates slipstreamed. The problem is the same on server OSes.

That does seem to be a good option. My memory was that they had only been back a 3 years which would not be enough data for CR. Sometimes it is good to be wrong.

Dropped my GTab in some water...

Good idea but you will need to vent the humid air the Tab is releasing to do the job or put a hydrophilic absorbent in there with it, like rice. :) I would eat the rice later.

I want to buy a new car

First time I've ever hard that characterisation of American vs Japanese cars and certainly not my experience. I've driven 3 Japanese cars over 200k miles. 4 cars ago I drove a Nissan. At about 100k I sucked some water into the intake and bent the piston rod on cyl 4 so badly it knocked a slot in...

What is Fiat's reliability reputation in the rest of the world? I wouldn't know what Peugeot's current reputation was either since they have not been made here in so long. It used to be that you wanted a German mechanic and French or Italian lover and not visa versa.

Jobs with LOTS of spare time

Like others, I haven't had work hours downtime in 2.5 years. In between the break/fix, project implementation, and fixing things that were implemented incorrectly. I've also a few projects going on outside of work hours. Its always a matter of deciding what thing is not as urgent as the other...

    High(ish) end SSDs

Hard to know what you mean by "stand up well". Doug has answered your question regarding wear out but I actually took your question to be about write speeds. If you leave 10-20% unpartitioned space at the end of the user accessible area you will create a cushion that will help preserve both...

Argh, its always option 3! Thanks for a good discussion Chewy! Case in point, I looked up the SATA revision for the drives I recently purchased and it only lists SATA 6Gb/s. TR's SSD endurance test

Strange. This would defeat the whole speed benefit of TRIM; to erase blocks in advance of needing them rather than just in time. Marking the page as unused is the normal process so either the TRIM command was not correctly issued or there is unexpected (to me) lag between issuance and...

I've enjoyed getting up to speed on SSDs and the benefits/disadvantages. Thanks. Android phones: Tips, tricks?

I'm going to assume that this is an accurate picture of the ZIF socket. It is hard to tell in which direction the latch is providing force to develop a more elegant solution.
