How do you know the media is not affected? Yes, I have, and what you are describing is something that is a tested design. Drives magnetically attracted to each other is different.

I had an issue this week to install a new SAS controller into a server and attach a tape drive. What I found was that the card would not see the drive if the card was plugged in to the end connector (of 2). If I plug the card into the middle connector it sees the drive fine. What's the story?
