    Vuze as a resource hog?

It isn't that hard to use unless your other, previously installed BT client keep hijacking the file association.

How do I turn this system into a HTPC?

I still have the sound card, depends on what you mean by "normal". If your amp takes SPDIF or TOSLINK, then yes. If it takes RCA, you'll need a bunch of 1/8" to RCA adapters ($3 ea @ Radioshack).

    Dual-use Tablet

Some KVM switches have a USB port on them. Sticking a hub on that and all your peripherals off that is the best way. Some devices have issues with this, and I've never tried it with a Wacom.

    Well, crud

It depends. I can drop $20k for the main office, where 250+ people use the web and all the remote site VPNs connect. Some of the remote locations only have 2 people selling sand (literally) or 5 people renting out porta-potties (seriously). In order to keep these locations profitable, some...

    Well, crud

I can VPN through a Tomato'd router, but it cannot be the VPN gateway for a site-site link. DD-WRT can, but doesn't support the protocols I'm looking for.

    U-verse & Dish Network

I just upgraded a client to the 50/10 Comcast service. It actually clocked in at more than that, with a 17ms ping to their other offices. Very sweet.

    Interested?
  9. ddrueding

    Well, crud

That sucks. I've been having my own issues with them. Tomato has no VPN capability at all, and DD-WRT doesn't support a mode compatible with my FatPipe. FatPipes suggestion? Buy more FatPipes @ $20k/each.

SSDs - State of the Product?

I've just left them all at defaults. I was mucking about for a while, and didn't see any that stood out (>10% difference). Even the Raptors can manage 250MB/s...so I think my storage is up to the task. Most of my photo editing stuff is now CPU locked again (stupid lack of multithreading).

More stable isn't good enough? It should be as fast as the rest.

The BMW had a blemish on the rear bumper. She was on with her insurance before she even got out of her car. It's going to up her rates too, so it was not the smartest thing she could have done.

SSDs - State of the Product?

I don't understand what you are saying here? I suspect that it is much more than twice as fast. Keep in mind that I'm keeping my RAM clocked at 1066Mhz to keep it stable at faster timings.

Nothing exceptional (x2), there seem to be major limits on OCs with this much RAM.

It is called image stacking. There are programs out there made to do specifically that (very common in astophotography). In theory, stacking layers in PS should work, but I haven't gotten good results that way.

    Netbook for the wife

Granted, it does cost more than the netbook and all the upgrades I've already done (RAM, BT) combined, but boot time is the most important thing for a netbook. Hopefully this will cut boot time in half, the stock SSD is painfully slow.

How do I turn this system into a HTPC?

Another thing to keep in mind, the signal is digital, so cable length is irrelevant. Don't worry about putting them next to each other.

How do I turn this system into a HTPC?

Don't go SLI (or as it is called with ATI cards, crossfire). Compatibility and driver issues are simply not worth it. Another thing to realize is that you are going to be lucky to get 800x600 resolution out of an S-Video cable. That card will play all games really well at 800x600. A 9600GT is...

I don't remember if that motherboard has SPDIF or TOSLINK out? If it does, hook that up to your receiver and forget about it. If it doesn't, I have one of Merc's favorite cards sitting around (Auzentech X-Plosion). Pretty much as good as it gets.

How do I turn this system into a HTPC?

Are you going to store media on this machine? Or elsewhere on your network? Other than that, quiet would be the other goal. You have enough processing power to do whatever you need, just start swapping out bits with quieter ones. 10k SCSI disks are almost certainly too noisy, even installing the...
