    Android phones: Tips, tricks?

The Nook Color weighs more than my Galaxy and needs a rooting every bit as bad as the Kindle Fire. Fortunately, it is a straightforward process. BN even tolerates third party Android builds loaded off the SD slot.

    PDF editor?

NitroPDF is really nice. It has a nicer UI than Foxit and doesn't install crap. One of my clients has a site license for it. Since the UI for Nitro looks like Office 2007, the fact that it's better than Foxit might say something about how retarded Foxit has gotten. Either way it's still better...

    vCenter converter

It doesn't molest the source PC other than the resource drain required in its operation. On the other hand, based on my limited experience I could not get it to make an image that was actually bootable, either. I had better luck with the old fashioned p2v assistant.

You can add aliases to an existing domain. That's completely valid. Several of my customers have done that in order to claim domain names in the various new TLDs that have come along in the last couple years.

I'm completely psyched for Lord of the Rings Lego. Legos were what I played with as a kid. I didn't have GI Joes or Transformers. I had the Lego castle sets. Lego Moria and Weathertop would've been eleven-year-old me's wildest dream that didn't involve boobies.

OK, going with just the plainest of plain vanilla configurations I have in separate VMs a 32-bit SBS2003 system with SBS 2.0 and Office 2010 running on it and as far as I can tell it's fine if I connect to it through RDP and make blank documents and stuff. I have Server 2008 R2 with Office...

Mobile Android Browsers: The good, the bad, and the ugly?

Ironically, I'm having some difficulty rooting one of my Evo 4Gs. I suspect it's because it's never been activated as a phone. Anyway, it did two updates from whatever the hell the original shipping version from HTC was to something that's still Android 2.2, and it refuses to acknowledge that...

    Preferred Monitoring tools

Actually, something like a desktop widget that shows CPU/RAM/Disk Queue length in some format that's prettier than Performance Monitor would probably be enough for my immediate need, though I'm sort of curious as to what people do on their own for professional work as well. One of my customers...

Every time I've spoken to anyone about it, I've come away thinking that people have NO IDEA what they're giving up by using Facebook. I'm not surprised at all to find that to be the case. Preferred Monitoring tools

Does anyone have any server monitoring tools they prefer to use over others? In particular, one of my customers really wants something he can look at on his desktop to see what's going on with his three server systems. Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to like simple Performance monitor graphs.

PC Gaming = World of Suck

My local Walmart has a boxed set called "Popcap's Greatest Hits." It sells for about $15 and includes Bejeweled and Zuma. Ripping Music to MP3

Windows Media Player has or at least used to have some pretty bad drawbacks. It used to not support ripping directly to MP3 without purchase of a Windows Plus pack and would instead rip to .WMA, a format that isn't very compatible with much of anything outside the Windows ecosystem. While I...

    Any Sharepoint users?

Documents, once put in Sharepoint, are difficult to get out. Once you start working in a Sharepoint framework, it's very hard to turn around and stop using it. Which means that you'll forever thereafter need someone to administer it and the servers it runs on. It also has it's own underlying...

I wouldn't store passwords on a mobile device if I could help it, but there are password managers like lastpass that could do the job if you really needed such a thing. I mainly use the stock Android browser, though I do keep Firefox installed. Every once in a while I find something that's...

Walmart is offering the Kindle Fire for $200 with a $50 gift card this week. Which is a pretty good deal if you already buy groceries and stuff there. It's kind of a toss-up between the two.
