[NEWS] - Three new browser releases

Hmm... I guess it's too little too late for me. It would have been nice to have a viable Outlook alternative, but nothing comes close to Outlook's mail and calendar features except for maybe Gnome/Ximian Evolution. And if anything, Moz the browser has never really done it for me. In fact, I'm...

    How do people meet people?

I didn't mean to trivialize the love and understanding that you and Amy shared by highlighting your writing skills or implying in any way that it was your writing that made it special and not the relationship itself... that wasn't my intention at all.

    How do people meet people?

Wow. That is something special indeed, Merc. Thank you for sharing that with us. It was made even better for us with the power of your prose. You have a way with the written word, as we have told you countless times before. --------------- Now, I was all ready to throw a plea for pragmatism...

    [Warranty News]: WD Changes Warranty

I don't think the DM+8 is available in a 60 GB capacity. If it's from Maxtor, it has to be the DM+9.

Played with the G5 1.6 and 1.8 yesterday...

The first time I saw a mouse driven GUI, it blew my mind. It was the Apple Lisa, which had the high-res Mac Finder desktop (as opposed to the CLI of the IIe). I was still fairly young at the time (something like 11 years old?) and was absolutely mesmorized by the icons and the mouse. Of course...

    How do people meet people?

AQ 26 No Asperger's (>32), but I do have slightly more autistic traits than the average person (16). EQ 36 SQ 34 I'm a middle-of-the-road S-type. Hooray! I'm a little eccentric, but I'm not a nut job :) I think this quote is particularly fitting: "If I am curt with you, it's because time...

    Moving (Sucks)

Wow, that's a lot of broadband, Coug. What are you going to do with no monthly limits and so much bandwidth? Serve a porn site from home? :mrgrn:

    Moving (Sucks)

Come to think of it, if there's one thing Canada leads the world in, it's cheap broadband available to 90% of the population... that, and of course, hockey, and donuts :)
  10. E

    Moving (Sucks)

Could be, but isn't he's paying in CDN dollars, which would mean it's 40% cheaper with the exchange rate? I have never heard of broadband ever being more than $44.95 CDN/month ($32 US) in Canada for the typical 1-1.5 Mbit ADSL/cable service. Conversely, I have noticed that many people in the US...

Played with the G5 1.6 and 1.8 yesterday...

There's nothing like getting spurned by an old friend. I used to love the Mac and had tremendous pride for the efficient, elegant machine that could allow me to do twice as much as a typical PC user could. But after '95, Apple's tired, empty promises and unfulfilled potential just left me cold...

    [NEWS] Internet Explorer Trojan Problem

Thanks for the heads up. I removed the MIME association to mshta.exe in Windows Explorer > Folder Options > File Types > HTA file > Advanced and exported (then deleted) the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htafile key in the registry. I also thought about using gpedit.msc to disable the ability to run...

    [Warranty News]: WD Changes Warranty

I wouldn't think so, Greg. IDE customers are price-sensitive; SCSI customers are not. The SCSI standard is 5 years. Any mfr who tries to drop the warranty to save a few bucks in service costs would immediately lose 5 million units in future sales for next year.

    Moving (Sucks)

Arggghhh! I now know why my throughput is so high: my ISP switched me to the Ultra plan without even asking me! I am not happy about that at all. I was just about to yell at some poor customer service shmuck, but they are not open past 8 PM. They will feel my wrath tomorrow.
  22. E

    Moving (Sucks)

I am getting much higher throughput these days, BTW. My service is officially 1 Mbit/s down / 160 kbit/s up, but DSL Reports measures it at: 2003-10-01 21:38:09 EST: 2609 kbps down / 672 kbps up

Buying a LCD in the next day and need advice

I just ordered the APC Back-UPS RS 1000VA unit from www.buyuptime.com . The best thing about them is that they offer free shipping on these heavy UPSes -- even to Canada! CDW was going to charge me $98 US to ship that unit to Canada via UPS (a UPS shipped via UPS? LOL...).

As I write this, I am having a pleasant experience receiving a fax through eFax.com, a fax service for people who don't have a fax machine mentioned above as suggested by Merc. I used to have an Ericsson T18z. Like Pradeep's recent model, the RF performance was amazing. I could get and retain signals in places most people couldn't. Unfortunately, it was digital only, which meant that it couldn't be used in rural areas where there are only analog cells. Beautifully...

I love plain Krispy Kreme donuts. Barring that, a chocolate glazed (this is actually a chocolate cake donut with a sugar glazing), chocolate dip (yeast), honey dip, or honey cruller from Tim Horton's will do just fine! BTW, I am currently living in Hamilton, which I believe has the 2nd most...

I've installed a brother MFC laser in my dad's office with much success (knock wood). The problem with brother laser print engines, however, is that they have separate drum and toner cartridges. You got yours to work for 2 years? That's pretty good! :) Yup. The short life of UPS batteries is the reason I am not running any UPSes at the moment, and haven't been for quite a while now! Would be too fuzzy at 1600x1200. Trust me. The Mitsu DPro 930SB is based on the next generation DiamondTron aperture grille tube, I believe (the 900NF is based on the earlier version), which is a little brighter. I am not sure if it is sharper at high res, but I think the Mitsubishi electronics...

Ever wanted to know the thoughts of car fans?

I am not sure what you were talking about in your last post, but given engines of different displacement and identical peak power and torque ratings, the rpm at which peak power and torque is created is almost guaranteed to be different.
  50. E

Ever wanted to know the thoughts of car fans?

Not exactly, but close enough. Without knowing anything about the respective "squareness" of the designs, number of cylinders, valvetrains, heads, and induction systems, it's hard to say for sure. Don't you have any more information available? Like the rpm at where the peak power and torque was...
