    The SCO Debacle

SCO is going to get an asskicking from IBM and Red Hat. They will die from the legal fees alone unless MS decides to bankroll them as they have a huge incentive to keep the FUD around Linux alive.... SCO has sealed its fate in the marketplace. Who will ever buy SCO products/technologies after this?

Nice story, Merc. Sounds like you had a good time... So basically, what you're saying is that the guards promptly escorted you out the nearest exit for harrassing Kevin Smith, and it just happened to be the VIP exit :mrgrn:

Speaking of the poor quality of TV, I can't believe you guys are bashing Seinfeld when all we have these days is reality show after reality show. Surely they deserve it more than Seinfeld. There is some good stuff on TV these days, though. My favourites are: - Alias (abc, Sun) - 24 (FOX, Tue)...

Geez, Merc. I wasn't really being serious with all of this. Can't we have a little fun around here without you banging your head and getting all serious on us? As for Seinfeld, I guess this is the wrong crowd. While the overall quality of his material is admittedly not the greatest...

Ever wanted to know the thoughts of car fans?

Are you kidding? 10-15 mph? US bumpers are only rated to withstand 2.5 mph collisions. Some cars incur thousands of dollars of damage with a 10-15 mph impact. With only a 5 mph collision, the average repair costs for a 2003 Suzuki Aerio were $1,131 US. 1999 Mazda Protege? $1,144 US. Rally cars...

jtr, those leg press numbers are exceptionally high for a non-pro athlete or a non-bodybuilder. For example, Junior Seau (all-pro linebacker for the SD Chargers for those who don't know) can only do 850 x 15 in the leg press (Muscle and Fitness, Oct 1993).

True, a Miata is a small, light car, but at least it's "worth it" -- a nimble fun roadster that started the retro/roadster trends that others followed since then. The Tercel, well... it's an uncool, cheapo econobox that has few redeeming qualities. If you're going to risk your life in a car...

The cheaper Toshibas I was not impressed with. I looked at the Satellite line in the late 90's but decided to buy a ThinkPad 385XD instead. Much better laptop initially, but the IBM proved to be unreliable. The higher end Toshibas are supposed to be decent, though.

Got a 7200.7 when bought a Barracuda ATAIV.

Yes, the removal of the SeaShield would lower heat as well, but I don't think heat is a problem for 7200 rpm drives these days. If it were a 15k drive, I can see how better dissipation of heat without the shield would be useful, but a 7200 rpm drive? Hmm...

Got a 7200.7 when bought a Barracuda ATAIV.

What I'm trying to say is that there must have been a compelling reason to do so, as they purposely left the SeaShield out of the original design of the 7200.7 (the first lots of 7200.7's all came without SeaShields) presumably to save cost...

Got a 7200.7 when bought a Barracuda ATAIV.

I wonder why they changed the design (albeit, the addition of a SeaShield must be a very simple modification)... maybe customers complained that it wasn't as quiet as the legendary Cuda IV and V's in operation?
