I usually run O&O defrag and 99% of the time it shows the MFT in the center of the partition. When it doesn't, the partition has been manipulated in some way. IE: partition Magic. Bozo :mrgrn:

By default XP will shut off the monitor after 20 minutes. It can also shut down the hard drive. (these are different settings than hibernate). Have you check these settings? Could be that your hardware doesn't cooperate. Bozo :mrgrn:

I've been using the Firefox Beta for about a week or so. Works great. The original Firefox locked up when trying to view Big Ad. The beta runs it fine. I also had bought Opera a while back. Used it until V7 came out. Then switched to Firefox. Guess I'll try the free version of Opera. Anything...

You might also download Server 2003 Resource Kit (it's free) and extract 'Robocopy'. It will run on NT 4.0 and above. Looks impressive although I have not tried it. Bozo :mrgrn:

I'm still testing but I believe synctoy uses the metadata of the file. I have made changes to a file and synctoy copied the file to the other test computer although the date was the same. (at least the date you could see in explorer) I'm setting up a recycle bin test now. Bozo :mrgrn:

I bet to differ as far as Synctoy goes. I'm only testing it now but so far it's working great. One of the things I like is if you delete a file/folder on one computer, Synctoy doesn't delete it on the 'mate' computer but puts it in the Recycle Bin. If you do an 'opps' you can recover. I also...

I have always run folding in console mode. That way I could see what's happening. If I set up folding to run as a sevice, is there a way to see the progress it's making? Bozo :mrgrn:

On my Supermicro P4SCT+II the RAID is setup in a menu that you envoke during bootup. There is no way you can convert RAID 1 to RAID 0 without going back to the menu and destroying the original setup. This onboard RAID is in hardware. The motherboard uses Intel chipsets. Bozo :mrgrn:

With you running at 3.4GHz already, it doesn't seem cost effective to try and move up. If your software is capable of running on dual processors, that would be better. A dual core CPU and motherboard would be well under your price point. Bozo :mrgrn:

Looks like you need to move to dual core or dual CPUs. A Pentium D 830 on a D945 series motherboard would work. It supports 4GB of DDR2. I'd recommend an AMD 64 something or other, but I don't trust the motherboards. Seems the only reliable and trustworthy ones are for servers. $$$$$ Why not...

Try to do the 'second' repair like you did before. Only this time press F5 during the first few seconds when you "press F6 if you have......" The F5 key will allow you to select the type of computer. Maybe doing this in the very beginning will help. Bozo :mrgrn:

I just ran ATTO on a 3Ware 8500 with 4 WD1200JD drives running in RAID 5. Writes topped out at 27Mb/Sec and reads 62Mb/Sec. Drivers and firmware are about a year old. The computer is running 2003 Server with write cache enabled. Bozo :mrgrn:

Mubs, The XP SCSI bug was repaired in XP 64bit but not in 32bit. In 64bit you can enable cached writes via Device Manager. Bozo :mrgrn:

I use xcopy at work across our network using IP addresses. You might want to look at XXCopy. [http://www.xxcopy.com/index.htm] It's like XCopy on steroids. I use it mainly because it can be setup to only copy files that have changed. Saves time and bandwidth. Bozo :mrgrn:
