    RAID 0 again

Another thing to consider about a SATA drive. The connectors. They suck and are very easy to break....I know  Once the connectors are broke on the hard drive, the drive is worthless. If you are installing them in a very tight space, it would be very easy to break them. Just trying to...

WD SATA issue (maybe). Just a heads up

The few SATA computers that I have put together have had SATA support on the motherboard. (Intel and ASUS; D865 & D875 chipsets) No special drivers were needed as everything was taken care in the BIOS. A couple of computers were built with 3Ware SATA RAID cards. You needed to load drivers...

    Need SCSI Help

I guess my expectations were too high. I tested a WD400JB and it averages 49 MB/sec. Thought the SCSI drives would smoke it. The X15 did, but I was expecting over 100MB/sec. But, the better access times seem to make up for the slower speeds. This is more of a percieved 'feel' than hard numbers...

    Need SCSI Help

I purchase a LSI Logic 'LSIU160' and the SCSI cable from Newegg. I've attached a Seagate Barracuda ST39236LC to the cable/controller combo. After getting everthing setup, I ran ATTO. Seems the best this drive can do is ~25MB/sec. Seagate specs say I should get 40MB/sec or 80/160 in LVD mode. I...

BeOS was also a great operating system for multi-tasking. I loaded it in a PII 300 with 128 Meg Ram box and demonstrated it to a MAC diehard. He couldn't believe what was he was seeing. Two demo videos running in separate windows and you could still use the system for word processing. And not a...

Interesting.......Just got a computer in my cube that's being retired. It's a Gateway cica 1998. Most of the Windows file are dated 1999. The hard drive is a Western Digital Caviar 36400. WOW, Seagate ups warranty to 5 years.

Western Digital 'JB' series has had a 3 year warranty for some time now. So does the Intel. Basically, every box that I put together uses parts with a 3 years warranty. Hopefully I never have to find out how good these warranties are. Although the Western Digital RMA process is relatively...

I salvaged two drive cages from a couple of Compaq servers. The removable drive carriers are marked 'Wide-Ultra'. Fan placement and drive cage question

Thanks for all the help :D blakerwry: I was thinking of doing a RAID setup in the future, a single drive for now. Right now I have an Adaptec 2940UW with a 15K RPM Cheetah attached for testing (at work). Amazing the difference from Raptors and even a 10K RPM Cheetah. This is what got me to...

    SCSI questions

I've been contemplating going to a SCSI drive in my computer. I've got a couple of questions. If the PCI (32 bit ) bus can only handle 133MB/sec of data, whats the point in installing a SCSI drive that can transfer 320MB/sec? Would a SCSI drive rated at 160MB/sec saturate the PCI bus, or is...

XP has builtin UPS management. A serial cable connects the UPS with the PC. You can set the PC to shutdown after a specific time. Geil RAM .... wonderful stuff

I can't argue about the performance between AMD and Intel. But the reliability issue is what I'm concerned with. Good for you. Actually, it's not your neighbors fault. It's the manufacturers of the equipment. Most of the general public has no clue about technical stuff and how to set them up.
