    Serial DVD burner

The power and data connectors on SATA just plain suck goats nads. I've already broken the data connector on one drive while trying to install a CD-ROM. Just moved theSATA cable the wrong way and 'snap'. There is one small advantage to the sucky connectors though. I installed a StorCase...

Don't hold your breath on speeding anything up. SP2 is over 350Meg in size and adds a lot of stuff. Bozo :mrgrn:

    Becomming very annoyed with Antec

I didn't bother mentioning the case fans as mine have pass-through connectors. My point was that the 430 watt power supply has fewer Molex connectors than a 300 watt power supply. If I had some SATA devices it might have worked. If you are upgrading your power supply, it usually means you need...

    Becomming very annoyed with Antec

Had to leave for a minute...... Above the DVD hardware are two Stor-Case hard drive recievers. Before I used another Molex, Molex, floppy cable. (why are there 2 floppy connectors??) Now it would take two separate cables. Below the floppy drive are three hard drives. Before I used the cable...

    Becomming very annoyed with Antec

In this computer the DVD-ROM is above the DVD-Burner. These two are above the floppy drive. Before I used a Molex, Molex, floppy cable to power all threes. Now my cables are Molex, SATA, and floppy. This means using another cable with a Molex connector. I looked at moving the hardware around to...

    Becomming very annoyed with Antec

That drawing is not like my power supply. They added some SATA connectors instead of the Molex. (2?? I don't have the power supply in front of me at the moment) There's also logistics. Not all the hardware is mounted to accommodate the power supply. Bozo :mrgrn:

    Becomming very annoyed with Antec

I was upgrading a computer the other day to a P4 from a P3. The case I was using did not have a P4 compliant power supply. I purchased an Antec 430watt True Power power supply. The new pc only has a hard drive, CD-ROM, CD-burner, and floppy drive. The 430 watt PS would be overkill. Another...

Ferrite rings...do you use them when you assemble a case?

I've assembled about 15 compters this year so far and none of them had the ring. All were Antec cases. The last time I remember seeing that ring was when I assembled a computer with a BX chipset, ~1999. Bozo :mrgrn:

    Weird Asus MB problem

I don't usually do much overclocking, but I decided to play around with my Asus P4C800-E-Deluxe. The MB is equiped with a Promise RAID controller that I have disabled in the BIOS. But, when I up the memory voltage, the BIOS ignores my settings and displays the Promise RAID controller during...

I also did the Google search. I downloaded the white paper from Intel and I'm more confused that ever. I have an Asus P4C800-E-deluxe with the Intel 875 chipset on it. PC specs for 2004

I've been installing the ATI Radeon 9000 64Meg card for motherboards without on board video. All of our computers/servers have the USB ports disabled. Some don't even have a CD-ROM. This keeps the "curious" from fooling around. We spend enough time keeping virises and worms out without having a...

    SQL Server replication

That's odd. Our file replication is instantaneous. And network traffic is negligible. I have been informed the MSSQL has a replication service built in. Bozo :mrgrn:

    SQL Server replication

If you are running Windows Server, you can use the 'File Replication Service' to keep the database current on each machine. It's instantaneous (allowing for network load). I just set up two servers using this and connected them via a crossover cable. Working fine so far. Bozo :mrgrn:

    Ever deepening hatred for WD

About the same here: In 1998, the company bought over 300 Gateway E4200 computers for the office types. All had a WD Caviar 6GB hard drive in them. No one in IT can give me the number of hard drives that failed, but they don't believe it was all that many. Some of these computers are still...

    Ever deepening hatred for WD

I've been checking some of our hard drive failures. This is not 'statisical' or 'scientistic' but does offer a closer look at what failed. First off: this a heavy manufacturing plant. Most of our eqiupment converts AC current to DC current. Some convert DC back to AC and pump it back into the AC...

    Ever deepening hatred for WD

I questioned the vender we used for computer parts about hard drives. They would not give me any numbers, but I was told that they have far fewer WD drives returned than other brands. I have bought Seagate, WD, IBM, and Maxtor from this vender. Bozo :mrgrn:

Onboard vs. PCI sound and LAN

I recently upgraded to a new box. I'm using both the onboard NIC and sound. Haven't had any problems. With a much faster CPU, more and faster RAM, and faster bus speeds, the sound computation is nothing more than a pimple on the CPU's a$$. But, I don't listen to music much on the PC. I use a...
